Auxiliary Belt replacement

Evening all, can anyone advise if the viscous fan has to come off to fit a new auxiliary belt please?
My tensioner destroyed itself today which in turn shredded the belt so need to fit a new one.
Just wondering if I need to order In the tool or whether it can be put over the top of the fan then in place on the pulleys?
Tia

Fan stays on, the tension can be released with a 1/2" ratchet to enable mounting.

Perfect, thank you. Thought that be the case but didn’t want to get into the job then realise I needed the special spanner.
Thanks

I tried with the fan on but could'nt fiddle the belt through and round, ended up buying the spanners and had the job done in less than an hour.

Thanks all. I decided to order the spanner’s earlier today. For the sake of a few extra £ I decided it was worth it to save a head ache and then potentially having to order them and wait anyway.

Well, to add to this solely for the purpose of anyone reading this with the same question as I had, £23 ish was worth every single penny.
Taking fan off made it a half hour job, as others have said, it would have been do-able with it in place but turned it into a really easy quick job just taking it off.
Hope it helps someone else later down the line..
