Loud squeal from front wheels
Evening all, just wondered if anyone can advise please.
I’ve recently got a very loud squeal coming from I think one of the front wheels. It’s sometimes there when going slow in a straight line but definitely gets worse and louder on slowly turning right.. it obviously might be there at higher speeds but can’t hear it then.
It’s not belt related, definitely metal on metal I think. I have worked out that if I put my foot on the brake it stops ( not the car, the squeal. Well, the car too but for this discussion it stops the squeal).
So this leads me to thinking it’s either brakes, either pads or discs , or bearing hubs.
Firstly, is there anyway of narrowing this down, or, can there be anything else that it could be?

Build up of dust rust and crud on brake components, stone stuck in the caliper or between the dust shield and disc, sticking brake pad due to warped anti rattle shims, sticking caliper sliders due to dried out lubricant, worn out brake pads, sticking caliper piston due to wear (kaput caliper). Cat caught inside the wheel etc, etc.
Easily enough resolved without costly consequences if immediately addressed.
Pull off the front wheels and remove the calipers for inspection, check the condition of the pads/calipers, and for the presence of a stone or other foreign object. Clean and replace the pads as necessary using copper or ceramic grease, and re-grease or replace the sliders but with silicon grease only.
Are you sure the squeal is coming from the front wheels? The rear hand brake shoes if neglected can slip off it's shoe retaining clip. This then falls down inside the shoe, becoming trapped between the shoe and the rear brake disc causing a squeal at low speeds!!

Thanks for the reply, I did have OSF whee and calliper off on Sunday, checked pretty much all of that, with the exception of freedom of calliper pistons. All seems fine, ran out of time to do NSF, will do that next.
Reason i feel I’ve narrowed it down to the front is that it gets much worse when turning the wheels to the right.

Noises when turning right usually relate to LH side systems as this is where the load is.

Happened to me. Both front and rear brake pad "shims" (the metal piece that sits between the pad "ears" and the bracket) had the locating little clips broken. So they were sliding freely, and touching the brake disc. That produced a very annoying squeal when reversing, turning, etc, but not every time.
