Dash Cam, which fuses?

Installing a dash cam (front and rear) with parking mode so need a switched live as well as permanent.

I read one thread using fuse 23 but I don't have one. Also all the empty fuse slots have nothing in them to connect into so have to use an existing fuse. The low current draw is not likely to overload anything so once I have sorted which side is live I will use 2 piggyback fuse holders.
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

When I fitted my Nextbase I didn’t go for parking mode so just picked a fuse that stayed live when the eco stop start kicks in. I can’t recall which one but I tested it when out driving- pull up to traffic lights, engine stops- see what’s still running and has power!

If you go across the the powerfuluk website they have a tidy bit of lead that plugs into the overhead console & you can connect the wiring to it. Turns an annoying, cable threading, back bending operation into simple, plug & play.

If your model has keyless entry, the F17 fuse will work. This worked for my Nextbase with Park mode. You can then find a good earth. My D4 is a 2015.

Nextbase 522gw is a great product, it has an integrated front camera and then options for a rear-looking interior camera and a separate boot mounted rear camera.

The App is good too, easy to download stuff.

Using my twisted logic I went for the two fuses for the trailer DC feeds AKA Battery feed and ignition feed.

However jury is out until I can do some checks as the camera goes into parking mode after a time as if the car has detected no van and turns off the igition controlled feed.

I will get into it again A.S.A.P.

I also found out the top pin is the supply side so the tail from the piggyback fuse holder has to point down.

I recently hardwired my camera to work on parking mode and (somehow) it works!

The fuses I jumped are the following (see attached pic for their positions):
- F42 (Driver's electric seat) as the battery supply (always on)
- F27 (Trailer side lamps) as the ACC supply.

Not sure why, but the driver's seat seems to always be powered even with the car double-locked (?) it is also quite a beefy fuse so I don't feel bad for adding on the odd amp for the camera Very Happy (not happy with the hardwiring kit using 10A fuses though, the wires at the end of it are tiny! Waiting for some 1A fuses to arrive...)

Hope this helps!

I used the trailer permanent 12v as we know it is permanently on as some use it to charge the battery with the car locked up.

If you fit the fuse piggy back the right way round the extra current for the camera doesn’t go through the original fuse. My camera uses more than an amp when in full recording mode. I was considering turning off the parked recorder mode when idle on the drive as it is covered by cctv.
