Oil Level Sensor occasionally throws a warning message

Hi all,

This has probably been asked a gazillion times before but I can't easily find the answer.

I'm looking to buy a 2012 D4 that has a random oil level warning light that comes up.

Does anyone have a sense of how long this sensor takes to completely fail in this mode?

Could it be oil in the connector on the side of the sump?

Can you disable the dash warnings?

Many thanks,

didn't I respond to this in a different forum? Wink

If you can't trust the electronic oil level sensor... good luck with that.

I have the same with my oil sensor, but only when been on the motorway for some hour plus.
Does not leave a code in the history. As no code my warranty company won’t play ball!

Does it leave a code or only when it’s completely given up!

Too many sensors on cars now!

You can make a manual dipstick with one of those net curtain long sprung things they use to hold them up. This is fed down the pipe at the top of the engine bay where oil is sucked out for the oil change.

When mine was playing up the first time it went into the dealership it went in for two faults they said the oil level sensor was ok and topped up the oil I kept a check on it and took photos I got back off holiday and called the dealership and took it back in after a few discussions with the manager he put a senior technician on it he unplugged the sensor and their was oil leaking into the harness but the code was stored in pending faults hope this helps
