EPB switch fault
A couple of days ago the parking brake failed. A total of nothing happened when i pulled the switch…well apart from lights on the dash telling me there was a fault!
Out with the Autel AP200 and the following was given…….
U2002-92 System. parking Brake Module. Description, Switch general electrical failure.
So i took out the switch to have a look.
Simple enough job.
First, out comes the cup holders and cup holder tray. Next reach in and disconnect the green plug connecting to the switch.

Next get a screwdriver and pry out the rubber piece in the switch recess, you can then access the screw that holds the EPB switch in place.

Once the screw is out you can force the switch forwardand remove it. It is tight, so go gently. I used a plastic pry bar to ease it forward. It then lifts out

So now we have a switch in hand. I had no idea how to test it now it was out! And i was loathe to spend eighty quid on a new one to test it that way!
So, out came a couple of sharp knives and i pried the centre of the switch out of its housing to see if there was anything obvious wrong with it. When you look at the bottom of the switch you will see four recesses where the main body is held, i pried by these and popped it out.

In the body of the switch were two white sets of prongs that activate the switch when you lift and lower it, these were dirty soi pulled them out and cleaned them and the holes they sat in.

I then took off the rubber cover on the switch base. This had four contacts, i put a piece of emery paper over these contacts and there corresponding contact point on the circuit board.

My thoughts here are that this is far as i can go, if it does not work i will buy a new switch .
But….when all was put together all worked fine, so i cleared the fault code.
Now to see how long it lasts.

Switch problems
If all goes wrong, I have a used one for sale on the forum. You would need to check the part number.

Often its a board problem and can't be easily resolved if at all. Moisture seems to be the culprit in your case or perhaps something spilled on the console?
A tiny blob of dielectric grease or similar on those contacts would prevent future corrosion, but I'd say you have the problem sorted.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
We use the car a lot so something being spilled would not suprised me! I did not know of that grease. Cheers.
