Best tyres for road use?

Hi all,

we do alot of miles delivering new vehicles for dealerships, replaced the two rear tyres with existing wranglers, after only 16,000, been advised that they are down to 3mm and will need changing shortly, however the front ones are still at 5mm!! Big Cry Big Cry

We check tyres/pressures twice a week or ahead of any long journey.... does anyone know the best road use tyre for standard wheels on a d3 TDV6 S or how best we can get longer miles out of existing or where we are going wrong (tow with a bj tri-axle trailer) Bow down

So we're not being silly thinking that we may only get more approx 17-18k miles out of them? Big Cry

Curious as to why the rears are wearing worse that the front?

If they are scorpion I got just 15K, so 17-18 is not good but better than mine.

Rears wearing more? Is there not a higher percentage of drive (just guessing Embarassed ) and weight especially when towing vehicles at the rear?

Yea I guess your right regards the weight element coz although the trailer sits on all three axles (ie all six wheels) when loaded, when empty the third axle is slightly raised so does not touch the road, might need to lower the tow bar a bit perhaps? Mr. Green

I'd try some 18" General Tire At2's on Black 18" Rims

Did you know there are seven for sale on E-bay Whistle

been doing a bit of research this afternoon, looking at various makes, we run Goodyear Wranglers 235/70 R17 114H Mud & Snow, as was on there when we bought the vehicle from Highways Agency.

Seems there are a few choices different to those mentioned but has anyone had any experience of the following:

Continental Conticross Contact LX
Continental Conticross Contact UPH
Continental Cross Contact AT

Had a look at michelin website and mailed them as we do 98% travelling on the main road and pull a 3.5 ton tri-axle car trailer, doing around 1500 - 2000 miles a month Big Cry Big Cry

Not needing off road ability and expect the tyres to be changed again before the winter so not looking at winter tyres.

Get some 19" HSE wheels and stick some MTR's on them. You will get 35k out of a set if not more.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I've got the Michelin Synchrones and after 20K miles loads of tread left..........

Also they are very quiet for road use. But they are a "softer" ride than the wranglers and scorpions so a bit less cornering feel.
end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
