Almost does not move when cold |
|
My 2012 3.0 SDV6 is VERY lazy in the morning and after work (9 hours):
When I start up with cold engine and try to reverse out there is almost NO power at all. I can rev i N, but not in R.
After a little while it behaves 100% perfect. It never happens when starting warm engine.
It is a little bit better now the summer is here, but in winter with sub zero it was a nightmare.
Help...

I don't know the answer to your problem but using low range in reverse when cold would help you out for the time being. Stu

If in put in in D and drive 1-2m it works in R as well...

There was a similar thread recently, but I'm not sure there was ever a proper diagnosis. My view on that one was that this happens when the EGR doesn't close properly on shut down. Once it gets a bit of warm exhaust through it, then it is all back to normal. I've had this happen on a few random occasions and managed to convince myself that a spray of EGR cleaner in the air intake helps, despite logic telling me that it is highly unlikely to work! Certainly the spray seems to make the error codes go away for a (short) while.
Do you have any EGR-related error codes? Previously:

Hi
Finally a sober feedback
I have no errors what so ever on my GAP tool.
I have a can of EGR-cleaner, but not sure where to use it. Can you advise me on that?
If that does not work I reckon new EGR valve? Can I tell if it works by using the GAP tool on live data?

If you have no error codes (including pending codes) on the GAP Tool, then your EGR is probably fine! Also, I thought I had seen on here that with the D4, the check engine light on the dash comes on if the EGR is playing up? My D3 is old enough not to have a check engine light at all!
From memory, I think the Live Values on the GAP tool let you see the % that the two EGR valves are open. You can look at that when you start up and then get someone else to watch it when you are driving, to see if it is opening and closing properly.
I believe that you can get three different kinds of EGR cleaner - one as a fuel additive, one to use if you have the EGR removed from the vehicle and one that you spray into the intake air system. In my case, I've used the third kind, spraying bursts of cleaner into the intake pipe immediately after the air filter box (and after the MAF sensor), with the engine running at idle speed. It may just be coincidence that it seemed to temporarily stop the EGR fault codes but, as snake-oil goes, this is at the cheaper end of possible fixes.
To be honest, though, NJSS's point above is a good one - with a remote on the Fuel Burning Heater, all these cold starting issues just disappear! Previously:

@worms, that was funny!
It may seem unrelated to many but I had the same experience with the diesel on the boat.
After sorting the intake situation, all is corrected.
But there is an ECM in the way so I would think filters and especially the MAF would have an effect. 2015 LR4 HSE Lux Aintree Green

I have this same with mine - especially if i havent prewarmed the engine with the altox. Its only an issue if i have left it to reverse up a hump, in this case , I throw it in drive and move it forward a knotch then reverse is happy. - Possibly an issue with the torque converter??
