First EPB problem since 2018... |
|
Hi All,
Re. 2011 D4 SDV6 which we've owned since 2018 without any EPB issues - until now.....
Over the past 3 weeks, I've had a couple of occasions when EPB module has screeched while releasing EPB - but it released ok on the next try. (I always use the EPB when stopped)
Yesterday, EPB would not release at all after screeching, got red light on dash, and I had to use emergency release pull cable to get away
(My indy replaced both rear calipers a few weeks ago after I was getting a red hot O/S/R disk, but I can't see how this caliper work would have affected EPB action)
I have just checked for fault codes with my IID BT, and PBM-Parking Brake is showing No Faults - but I haven't touched the EPB switch since pulling the cable
Q1. Do you reckon any link between caliper work and EPB issue, or just coincidence?
but in any case:
Q2. Chances of fixing the EPB squeal now just by proper adjustment of the parking brakes?
Q3: or have I blown it completely by pulling the emergency release?

Q1) Depends if they also replaced the discs…
Q2) Slim….needs stripping, cleaning and adjusting…and parts replacing as appropriate
Q3) should be good after doing the above if you only had a couple of screeches

If it’s of help, my 2012 D4 had its first EBP screech and dash fault 2 weeks ago. It did release on its own over night but I was off towing for the bank holiday weekend so didn’t want to risk a problem away from home. Took it to my local Indy who kindly fitted me in during the week, the stripped the drum / brake unit and said although nothing seems worn out, it was super dusty and dirty, so gave it a good clean and replaced some corroded pins, cleared the faults and so far so good. I did notice after the clean up, the Ebp sounds to be working much quicker and sounds less noisy than it was before, so I assume the dirty may have been over straining the actuator for sometime. All in all cost me £170 labour and parts.
