Have rear video but can't show just yet.
Don't look to bad rear bumper took all impact wife had brakes on in stationary traffic on bypass and saw it coming in mirror so braced.
The boot has slight dent on it, both side panels are straight but have popped out from bumper.
Underneath plastic part of bumper split in half and where tow bar is located is pushed against full spare tyre.
Only saving Grace is in a smaller my wife could of been kissing her backside goodbye.
Can't believe how bad the Renault disintegrated on impact as near on 5 tonne?
And shows how well built Landrover is🙏

Sorry to hear that, hope everyone involved is okay.

Insurance companies have been “writing-off” vehicles due to the time it takes to obtain parts and therefore the additional costs of storage and courtesy vehicles.

JLR have further added to the supply chain problems caused by Covid and Brexit by reconfiguring its UK parts supply network, from multiple warehouses to just one ‘super centre’.

The problem is even the youngest cars are now eight years old and parts are going to be limited.

I suspect it will be written off. How old is it?

that could have bent the main frame sideways and I guess only very tight measurement would confirm it is not impacted
i was under impression D3/4 is harder to damage from behind

Also sorry to hear that and hope everyone is ok.

Not sure about write-off or not, but I am really surprised at how well the Disco has come out of it looking, I know the van has disintegrated because of the front crumple zone, but I would expect more obvious damage on the Discovery after being rear-ended like that!

The main thing is that everyone involved is OK, vehicles can be repaired/replaced.

I'd be inclined to get the alignment on the LR checked & (if I liked the car) insist on a repair or payoff & get it repaired myself (& insist on a payoff unrecorded).

#The cherry picker will probably get repaired as it's a specialist vehicle. Goes to prove that French is built to a price.

The only bit I see that's badly damaged is the steel behind the plastic bumper that's shone in picture where the towbar goes?
Is it replaceable that part?.

The towbar mounting point is part of the chassis. If the chassis is bent it that area it will need cutting out and replacing, I’m not sure if there are repair sections available and / or procedures for doing it. Maybe someone else will know ?

Or it's been built to comply with safety standards ensuring it deforms to reduce the energy of the impact and therefore protect the occupants.

Being 'French' has nothing to do with it. Rolling Eyes

Rear cross members available to buy, can be changed by a competent welder without issue.

https://maltings4x4store.co.uk/land-rover/...kvb500101/

The van has absorbed most of impact so very good chance that your D4 will only need crossmember and bumper although will be prudent to get it all checked out.

Crossmembers were being replaced in large numbers a few years ago when the removable towbars were wearing the socket out and also a few D3's having them replaced now because of rot around the tow hitch.

As above, nice to see these things look after the occupants.

Rear crossmembers are available and can be swapped out, done in a post below, about 3.5 hours labour looks like.
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic187853.html

But deffinately get the rest of the chassis checked for straightness, if good I’d swap it out. You owe the car a favour after that hit Smile
