Replacing tailgate microswitch |
|
The tailgate-opening microswitch on my D3 has finally started going intermittent, so needs a replacement. (More so due to having partially snapped one of the retaining flanges while trying to prise it out in order to put the rubber cover back on after investigating the issue and cleaning the actuating 'paddle' which presses onto the switch!)
Anyone had any success with one of the various options for replacement YUZ500020 switches available on eBay?

I haven’t used one from eBay.
I did fit a genuine RR sport switch into my old D3 rear door as the RR switch is available on it’s own where as the D3 part was the whole black bit including number plate lights etc and a lot more expensive.
From memory I think I had to cut and crimp some connectors. Disco 4

Yup, aware of the RRS switch fitting (part no. is the same) and the need to splice the wires due to LR not making the D3 switch plug-and-play. Just wondering if anyone had experience with any one of the multitude of eBay sellers hawking the switches. Ordered one anyway, should be here in the next couple of days.

Just as an update - after giving the original a bloody good clean, getting all the aluminium corrosion gunk out of the flappy paddle, squirting a bit of silicone lube into the pivot points and some contact cleaner onto the microswitch, it seems to be behaving itself. Impossible to get the rubber boot back on without prising the switch out of its position - which of course means that one corner is now held in with a dab of Araldite thanks to a broken fixing catch!
The replacement remains in its box, waiting for the original to finally fail...

Hi,
have you programmed your key to do the boot release
if I remember correctly when mine started to act up, cleaned it up but it failed some time later and I had not done the key so to open the tailgate you have to press both buttons on the dash while lifting the tailgate, which is difficult to do on your own
I wired an microswitch in and all was good again later on, but it is worth sorting your key to release the tailgate

Not sure if it's the same switch but I had to replace mine a few months ago, the new one only had 3 wires compared to the 4 on my car and a different plug/socket so I soldered the old plug on to the new switch and combined a couple if wires and alls fixed. Let me know if pics would help and I'll dig some out
It's really strange that something I did worked first time 😅 Previous Cars
