DIY CarPlay upgrade - good but DVD region issues
So, I gambled and ordered a Carsara CarPlay box from aliexpress for my MY 2015 (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001605575804.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.21ef1802DT36JD)
With the help of this great video, I was able to install it quite easily and hide the box behind the footwell trim in the passenger footwell. &list=PLH8pt-Ez4I-1iUu6YY184rQa4Es5_bnrO&index=3&t=696s
It works really well (so far) and it's really nice to have CarPlay but when I decided to check if DVDs will play in the back for the kids, I discovered it's messed with the region compatibility, I now get an error "Disc error Check DVD Region Code" on the playback screen.
It's so frustrating as we use DVDs a lot on long journeys.
Does anyone have any idea how to re code the DVD system or what could be causing this? My fear/guess is that it is the wiring for it rather than a software setting.

Yes it's definitely the Bosch system and not the earlier denso unit (2015-2017 Land Rover Discovery 4 with Bosch system original 8-inch screen). It's a my15 car. I have tried various dip switch changes but they didn't resolve it - they either stopped it working or they moved the image off the screen a bit.

That seems good value, in comparison to some of the other ones.
When the vehicle starts up, does it go into the CarPlay mode straight away or does it start into the LR system and then you press NAV to get it going - like some of the others? Did you get to keep the 4x4 info / timed climate / original phone options etc?

It's like the others it basically hijacks the old Nav so when you start it goes to the LR system and you press Nav to get to CarPlay. At any time you can go back to the LR system to access all the old functionality (yes, 4x4 info / timed climate / original phone options / reverse camera, parking, etc all there). Sound comes through Aux so you have to close Aux before listening to anything through CarPlay but when a call comes it it uses the cars phone audio integration (the old system) along with the CarPlay screen to display the call.
It's early days but so far I'm impressed except for the DVD region selection for the rear seat entertainment.

Taking a punt on one of these systems. I don't have any rear screens. It's around a price point I wouldn't mind for CarPlay, especially how much I enjoyed it on my recent hire car!

Prepare yourself for a long wait for it to be delivered!
Now I've used it for a little while I'm very happy with it. I've not bothered about the rear DVD problem, instead I have ripped the DVDs to divx which can play direct from a USB stick.
One minor gripe is that when my wife's phone is in the car with my phone it always connects instead of mine but I think that is because hers was the last to pair.

I think I'm right in thinking my 64 plate D4 is a 15MY?
It was registered in late Sept 2014 and is the facelift SDV6 with rotary gear selector.
Would love to get Apple CarPlay in my vehicle as the LR infotainment system is an ergonomic nightmare!

Mine was registered in Oct '14 and is a MY15. I think the key thing is whether you have the Bosch (newer) or Denso infotainment so you order the right box. The infotainment menus look very different so it's easy to tell.
One other thing that might put some off, it uses aux for audio so you won't be able to listen to radio and hear CarPlay sat nav instructions at the same time without faffing with your phone to send nav audio to the phone's speakers (which I think is poss but haven't tried).

One option if you have a lot of data is to use TuneIn for radio and leave it on Aux all the time

I’m after a CarPlay system but want to use maps on CarPlay and listen to LR DAB radio as reception is excellent and much much better than phone. I’m not fussed about voice on maps. Will this system allow this config?

I use the LR radio set up the majority of the time when I have Maps on the Carplay (I don't listen to the instructions - I am a man of course!!). So when I want podcasts or spotify etc, I just press the Mode button to switch to Aux for the audio.
