DPF Issues
Is it possible to have issues with the DPF being full/ blocked/ Dirty and the engine warning/ DPF warning to not trigger on a 2011 D4?
Had issues with the Turbos (Long, expensive story) and a couple of people (Obviously experts!) are telling me its the DPF causing issues......... the car has done 142k miles and a lot of my journeys are short so not the best for DPF health but it has never flagged any DPF warning lights and no black smoke etc out the back of the car.
I'll freely admit that I am slightly neurotic about this car now so any reassurances (Or not) would be appreciated!!

Take it to Henshall Engineering. They know their beans. Sorted out a family member's DPF issue. Basically reset the brain and it's worked perfectly.
Short journeys and DPFs are to be avoided though tbh Visitor from fullfatrr.com

What were your problems with the turbos?
I am also having a long going problem with excessive oil consumption.Oil getting into the intercooler.
No fault codes, no smoke. No expert seems to know what to do. A lot of parts changed. But still the same.

The pipes that are attached to the sensor that monitors DPF pressure, which the ECU uses to calculate percentage full, could be blocked by soot.
Do you have any type of scan tool that can read measured values?
As for oil getting into the intercooler, have you checked the PCV system and the crank case pressure? Both are interlinked and could cause oil in the intercooler, either from the crank case gasses or turbo seals leaking. You could try fitting an oil catch can between the PCV and the intake hose to see how much oil is coming from the crankcase gasses.
Just to note, a small amount of oil in the intercooler is normal due to the PCV being plumbed into the intake but fitting a Mann provent 200 into the pipe work and having it drain into a bottle would stop this. (Assuming PCV is the only cause)

Dear Mastertech.
I have tried to understand the crank case ventilation system on the D4 3.0 ltr engine.
Old engines were much simpler.
Think my oil consumption ha to do with too high pressure.
You are mentioning PCV. Please explain. Where is it?
Hoe can I measure crank case pressure. With GAP IID?
What is a Mann provent 200? And where to fit it. My motor takes 1ltr oil every 3500 kms.
Have exchange CSOV, oil catcher, 2nd turbo. 2nd turbo oil drain is the short version.

turbo-DPF blocked
I have a question about the leaking second turbo and blocked DPF. Disco4 2013, 170k. Both turbos were regenerated and reinstalled. After half a year (4k miles, mainly highways) the second turbo started leaking. After diagnosing the leaking second turbo, the specialist (who regenerated it) informed me that it is the fault of a blocked DPF (high, excessive pressure travelling through the rear seal and forcing too
much oil into the high pressure turbo making it leak. No signs of a clogged DPF. No information on the dashboard, full power, starting and revs ok, only when accelerating at high speed there was smoke. Is it possible that the DPF is blocked without any warnings or symptoms?
Any suggestions?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Have you had the secondary turbo drain pipe mod done?
Do you have a scan tool that can read measured values?
If you do what is your soot mass and ash mass. Your ash mass may be getting high at 170k

Yes, drain pipe done. Firs step was turbos out, so body was lifted. No possibility of testing now. DPF removed now. Still same question. Can DPF be blocked without any warnings?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
