Super engines them and in marinized form too. There was a guy in the US who did over 3 million miles in a 1960's Volvo P1800 (I think)

Presumably back in those days the bean counters had little influence unlike with today's manufacturing output. Rolling Eyes

Volvo engines are still quite good. Plenty of taxis doing 500k km over 3-4 years time. Depending on the country some of these get “made younger” and the next owner, buying a 200k km “barely driven in” one, does 200-300k km more or so over a longer period. Laughing

Over on RRSport there is a thread where people update the mileage showing on their RRS. There are 7 with over 200,000 miles. 1 has 380,000 miles on a 2.7TDV6.

So it is possible for LR owners to get decent mileage from their engines. Thumbs Up

Edit: that bus route is about roughly 1800km according to Google Maps. Nothing like long runs to keep engines happy. Laughing

Currently all the D3s on sale in Finland are diesels and have somewhere between 300k and almost 500k km on the clock… so yeah. Thumbs Up

All our coaches at work are Volvo/plaxton, they are now 9-10 year old with 830k miles on the clock. Engines pretty decent but the emission systems and electrics have been problematic. Currently waiting on our new Volvo 9700DDs to arrive, should’ve arrived months ago. They’ve went for a complete Volvo product over their usual Volvo/Plaxton.

The camera mirrors will take a bit of getting used to.

Our Alexander Dennis products, well, the less said the better really. Decent enough buses but just poor build quality, the JLR of the bus world Laughing

The mirrors would take some getting used for an old dog like me, but there's a big advantage over the rabbit ears which come in at €1500 a pop minimum when they're ripped off on narrow country roads. Laughing

My old D3 TDV6 now has 230,000 miles (370,000km) and is on the original engine. Doesn’t use oil or water between services.

I have a part time job collecting day-trippers and holiday goers and dropping them at local coach station. We use a fleet of Ford Transit mini-buses and the highest mileage is on a 15 plate one with 288k miles and, apparently, on it's second clutch. Runs as sweet as anything, doesn't blow smoke under load or appear to have any issues. Great vans Thumbs Up (although I'd avoid anything more recent running a 'wet-belt' system.....)

Hi astonbuilder

Plus 1 to the transits , useto drive one at work and was extremely comfortable , alas the security side was a nightmare where thieves would often cut a hole in the side or rear door , but of course same with most vans

Must confess had to look up the timing belt wet system as never heard of it before

Always good to learn how engines have changed over the years
