Hi All,
First off - I wanted to say what a great forum this is. It's helped me maintain/fix my old D3 and now my D4, saving me a fortune on garage fees alone 
Now, onto the problem...
I recently started to experience 'Restricted performance' errors on my D4/2011/3.0 SDV6 (116K).
GAP IID reported P0488-72 Throttle position control errors. After cleaning the throttle body/MAP and pipework - a smoke test revealed a cracked inlet Manifold (RH).
Long story short, I bit the bullet and replaced the following in one 'sequence';
- Front timing belt and tensioner/pulleys- Rear (READ) belt and tensioner -> timed as per this post: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post2316572.html
- RH Inlet manifold
- LH Inlet manifold
- Injector seals (copper and rubber)
- NEW Genuine Leak off pipes- Also replaced the oil/filter topped coolant up etc.
All parts/fluids OEM from Advanced Factors.
Took over a week and several layers of forearm skin.
Put it all back together, double checked all connections;
- Primed the fuel pump x3 times without starting
- Bled the fuel lines at the shrader valve
- Engine cranked x10 didn't start
- Cycled again and car started - with a loud rattle!
At first I thought the rattle was just the injectors still priming, but the problem has persisted, albeit less dramatically sounding.
So, I think I may have botched something!
I've put about 230 ish miles on the clock since doing the work, both around town and on the motorway.
Current symptoms;
- Noisy Rattle/tapping on startup / cold only - engine is quiet after about 1 minute of driving
- Occasional/sporadic misfiring - jerking; can happen when idling, light acceleration
- Occasional strong smelling fumes from exhaust
Otherwise;
- No error codes in IID
- No fuel/oil/cooolant leaks
- After first minute or so, the engine purrs like a kitten - no needle bounce either
- No smoke on startup or when running (I get about 5 seconds of white steam after about 10 seconds of driving)
- Fuel economy is great
- Power feels good
Tried so far;
- Diesel injector cleaner fuel additive
- Stethoscope on injectors; they all sound the same!
- Praying; no response so far

sounds like either the crank or the bearing shells not getting enough oil I'm afraid..... not surprised it is quiet after a while, have you checked/replaced the oil? Discovery 4
