Tracker - No Sub

Hi all

Any recommendations for a tracker that you can drop your own sim in but doesn't have monthly sub?

something like SinoTrack although reviews look a tad iffy

Thanks

In one of my cars I have a Scorpion tracker/immobiliser (pretty reasonable annual fee for what that is) plus I've popped an Apple airtag into a hidy hole in the car.

Apple airtag (free, once purchased) is 80% as good as the Scorpion tracker for visibility.

Depends upon what you want to track the vehicle for?

I think Flack posted a warning that the Altox uses the 3G network... which is being decommissioned in the UK.

I keep meaning to check with Altox regarding a way forward if this is an issue.

I've got both the Altox and a Sinotrack ST901 in the Ice maiden. The Altox seems to be costing around 0.07p a day with the GPS enabled. I'm not sure if the data is sent using 2g or 3g though. Also, unless you extend the wiring any knowledgeable thief will know the approximate location of the tracker in the car, given where the pickup is on the wiring loom. The Sinotrack costs around 0.07p a month to use using 2g data. The Sinotrack stuff is a bit clunky but is decent enough once you work you way around the App or web interface. Both have a Giff Gaff PAYgo sim. We also have a Vigitech tracker in another vehicle which costs £75 a year. If I had to choose one to meet my tracking needs, I'd go for the Sinotrack, it about £25 quid to buy and the data cost minimal.

I've got an AirTag hidden away in my D3 - does the job pretty well, at minimal cost.

Hardwire and hide an old phone.

If you use an AirTag, take the speaker out. They will know its in the car but won't be able to find it easily. Thumbs Up

Got a tracker off Amazon/eBay that looks like a relay and put a SIM in it. Cost me 3.95 a month for the SIM contract. If I find a cheaper SIM, I'll swap it over but at present it's the cheapest I can find. Works fine. Sends texts if movement detected and can track easily.
