Adjusting rear shoes this afternoon when I heard a crack. Turned around and the car was almost on the ground. Axle stand had collapsed. It was rated at 2 ton and supporting one corner only. Crikey I was underneath last week - I always leave the trolley jack in place but Christ on a bike. The bit that snapped is a cast steel item. From what I remember from school this could be the problem.
If yours look like these buy a second pair. I'm off to buy a lottery ticket...

They are in the bin but I did look. No indication to a brand. My warning is for this generic type. Purchased from the bay...

Academic but I would love to see a sharp closeup of the broken face.
Slight colour differences would show up a pre exisitng crack.
If you jack one side then the other it is a good idea to go back and lift the 1st side and reseat the axle stand on that side. As the second side is lifted it can put a significant side load on the 1st stand.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Ouch. Some things from eBay are just not worth the savings. Good habit to get into as well is to slide the wheel you take off under the car while you’re working, does t stop the heart attack when the car drops but you get to walk away when the wheel takes the hit.2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

There's lots of this cheap stuff floating around all over the place, so I'm not surprised. Thankfully you were spared any injury.
A warning indeed to all who intend on buying axel stands, and for those that already have.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Contents from the wheelie bin below. Should cast metal be being used in this application?
I will be pinching your idea regarding reseating the first stand used. This could have been my problem.

That looks like sintered iron, but either way that should never happen to a stand rated for 2 tons whilst only exposed to around 1/4 of that weight. Utter dangerous rubbish which should be blacklisted along with the other plethora of sub standard crap from the far east.
Send the pics and a covering email to your Govt office for safety and product standards.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
Now I always back up axle stands & jacks with something solid like timber or a wheel or two!

I think the only part that actually snapped is the web by your fingers, the rest was cracked already.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

I have the same or very similar, was using them a couple of weeks ago to change the propshaft
Safe to say i will not be using them ever again and will order some new ones, they've been pinched by my Gf for a makeshift dog jump holder so i think they'll be ok for that
