EPB failure

Got a EPB failure (screeching noise, warning lights, and brakes locked), RAC called via NFU.
Are they likely to be able to release without a garage visit?, would the emergency release (behind gear selector?) enable it to be driven/used?
Failing that, can anyone recommend an Independent LR repairer in East Devon, or should RAC just ship it to my normal service centre?
Thanks!

Emergency release should sort out your problems, but also causes more expense when you do come to repair it down the line. Try pulling the EPB fuse out from under the main fuse box in the engine bay first.

Do you have a fault code reader? Or the RAC may try a relatch procedure.

Basically what you want is for the handbrake to just release the brakes, then pull out the main fuse to make it stop working. You can then continue your journey. Then it’s a cheaper fix as the EPB module can be repaired rather than replaced once the emergency release is pulled.

Thanks, the epb seems to be ON at present, how does it get released before then removing the fuse?, or does removing the fuse release it? Thanks

There’s a few options, depending on how hands on you want to be. Depending where you are.

Ideally, if you can get code reader that allows the relatch operation function. Hopefully the RAC has that function. I’d be trying to move the car while it’s trying to do a relatch/unwind function because all you are wanting is for it to release, then you can take the fuse out, so it doesn’t come back on while your on your journey, that would hopefully keep the handbrake module re-useable come repair time. The fuse just disables it, not releases it, unfortunately.

If you are in a hurry, then obviously just pull the release cord and continue your journey- but that’s the more costly in money, but saves time.

Other options are to jack the car up , rear wheels off and slacken off the handbrake shoes via the adjustment access hole in the disc and try that way.

Edit: just checked online - it appears the D4 fuse for the EPB is in the passenger glove box, not the engine bay like the D3.
