Fridge Slide
Guys,
I am building my new set of shelves for the rear of the D3 (sad the ones I made for the D2 do't fit), and this time I am wanting to put the fridge on a slide.
Recommendations ? Prefer to spend less than more. But don't want one that will break either.
Thanks,

I believe that a mate, bought the "runners" & made his own fridge slide. If I can locate the details I will pass it on.
In my case, I needed some slides in a hurry (partner was "on my case") & so I just bought a "Black Widow" fridge slide. Bloody expensive, but works very well (I just mounted it onto some formply which I attached to two of the luggage mount points - partner not keen on my having drawers in the D3, which is a bit of a shame as I love to have all my tools etc in a drawer).
Seems like it would be the easiest to do (likely not the cheapest).

Hi Scott, just finished by shelf & fridge slide on the weekend.
Built from scratch using 12 plywood, 40x40 alloy angle, 5mm riverts, heavy duty velcro.
I have a 50L waeco, so decided to go with original waeco slide.
The system will let me fit 4 'gomo' boxes on the bottom level, then i still have a pretty large area on top level and fitted 4 tie-down points. There is even an area behind the fridge i can fit my toolbox or water jerry can.
Gomo boxes are from 'Opposite Lock', at little rich at $50 each, but very well made.
Have to say i'm very happy with the result, total cost, less then $700 including slide & boxes.

To ontheridge
Your design looks about what I had in mind - waeco on one side and shelf high enough for deep boxes on the other. Can you give me any more info on the design eg materials?
Also where is the power point for the Waeco?
Regards

Evan,
From Bunnings I bought the following -
>1 x sheet 2400mm x 1200mm 12mm construction plywood
>2 x 3m lengths 40mm x 40mm alluminium angle(expensive at Bunnings, but convenient)
>1 x packet 5mm rivert, these need to be long enough to go thru the ply and angle (9.7-12.9mm)
- when joing the angle to the ply, countersink the rivert haed into the ply a little then it pulls up just nice and flush and it grads the angle just nice.
>Selleys Kwik Grip glue, at least 2 litre to fix all the carpet
>Tie point are actually called trap door handle well package at a hardware store, but fine for light duty tie downs
>Heavy duty 50mm velcro, in fact you only need the hard hook side, if you pick the correct carpet the hook velcro attaches to the carpet perfectly.
From Clark Rubber store I bought the carpet, they have a good choice of car carpet, best to find one the velcro sticks well to. I bought the 3m of the carpet.
I used LR rubber mat as a template to cut the base then work from there. Angle is fixed to the upright pieces top and bottom, then the bottom is fixed to the base. Then the velcro sticks to the angle at the top, this lets the carpetted top shelf to fix to the uprights easy, also allow it to be removed if you have something tall to put in the back.
A trick is to leave the rubber LR mat (if you have one) under the base of the unit to lift it higher so the fridge slide missed the bottom tailgate easily.
As for power for fridge, I fitted 2 Aux power points directly about the side trap door where the jack and wheel brace kit are stored. Be aware there is less depth here than it looks as there is a seat belt tensioner that can get in the way (if you have a 7 seater), see below.
Lastly i design an adapter to allow access to the spare wheel winder without having to remove anything from the back.
Hope all that helps, maybe PM me if you need any more detail, happy to draw up a little more info to help.
