Brake controller

I am in the market for a new brake controller to tow my caravan.

Would like to hear any views on brands and models.

Regards

In Australia, the consensus seems to be Tekonsha Prodigy (it may surprise you to hear that this is a USA Coy.) Laughing

Agree, get the Prodigy. I just installed one and after first trip, have to say it's excellent.

I went with the Hayman Reece controller, primarily because it is a solid-state unit rather then one with a pendulum. The benefit is that it can be mounted at any angle (which was important for me because, as I'm sure you've already worked out, there's no room UNDER the dash). The down-side of this sort of controller is that the braking force is set and isn't progressive.

FWIW I'm quite happy with the Hayman Reece unit.

Get the Prodigy, Just came back from a 1500km trip towing 2500kg with the Prodigy and it works great and gives you a readout of power to the trailer brakes. Very easy to set the right amount of progressive braking. I fitted it to the small box section between the power outlets(where the ashtray is fitted in some countries) fits perfect and easy to see and adjust.
Do not take life too seriously no one gets out alive anyway!
