I think somewhere in the manual it recommends to wait ten seconds before switching off.

They have a blow off valve, but the only time you'll hear it is when your bogged on it's belly and you give it a boot full and then lift off.

I got bogged on a remote beach new Cape Jaffa and while I was trying to rock it back and forward it was giving off that sound. All I needed to do was turn the radio up to look like one of those Censored in their boy racers!

I'll be interested to know how the turbo timer can keep the engine running when you pull the key from the ignition because the immobiliser will be enabled. I am not sure it is not necessary otherwise LR would have mentioned it in their manual. These new generation turbos with their heat resistant metals and water-cooling don't seem to suffer the bearing problems of the previous generation turbos.

After driving a 96KW Turbo diesel Prado, then the Disco3, the difference in power and acceleration is like comparing a truck and a sports car!

Thumbs Up

LR don't say to do it because of the above basically

I would only ever worry about letting the turbo cool down if you had been towing a really heavy load and you stop straight away, ie. rest stop at the top of a large hill etc. Or maybe a water crossing?
Trust me, what could go wrong?

Is that the sort of whistling noise , or is that just the turbo winding down

It's definetly the blow off whistle! The three of us there all looked at each other when we heard it.

I am pretty sure that you can not have a blow off valve to atmosphere in Australia.

The regulation is somewhere in the ADR's from memory and designed to stop those hooning pratts putting them on every Jap engine around. Mind you, the police are pretty stupid as they dont seem to know the regulation and catch any of them.

There is no wastegate / 'blow off valve' on the TDV6, what you are hearing is the VVT dealing with the transient overboost, there's no watercooling on the turbo either.

I believe that some of the locals use a "synthetic" blow-off valve, ie: it makes the sound without doing anything. Maybe that's what you want.
