School 4x4 Trip! Need a Recommendation on a UHF Radio.
Hey hey!
First post new member,
My father and I are going on our school's 4x4 Trip in three or so weeks and I am wondering if anyone could recommend a UHF radio to go into our Disco 3. I would also like to know where a good spot to mount it on to?
And to add to that, Does anyone know where we can get some 19' Tubes from? As my Fathers brother whom owns a tyre center is having trouble finding some?
Cheers,
Hamish!

I fitted a GME 3440 which has the unit mounted up under dash in drivers footwell and microphone on left of steering wheel (rhs of centre console). Common spot! on the 3440 all buttons are on the microphone (given all Mb phones are like this we are all used to it!). Neat and tidy!MY2010 D4 HSE 3.0, e-diff, 19inch MTR's; LLAMS Height adjustor, LR f & r light guards, LR side steps, LR bright finish side door mouldings; LR/Mantec G4 front bash plate, LR G4 Winch kit, Warn 9500lb Winch; GOE compressor guard, Uniden UHF, LR bright finish roof rails, LR G4 driving light kit, LR G4 ladder, 4 x extra rear compartment 12V sockets, Traxide dual battery system and Optima Yellowtop battery, ORS drawer system / fridge slide, LED rear compartment lighting.
Can't go wrong with a GME. can't remember which model, but one has a remote head unit which gives you more mounting options. On our 3200 (I think), I haven't mounted it permanently, but have it wedged b/w the passenger seat and the centre console - works fine.
Enjoy!
cheers

Hi Hamish, go with GME, I used a TX3400, but the new TX 3440 is also a great choice.
The TX3400 uses a remote head, the main unit is hidden anywhere under the dash and the head unit is mounted as pictured.
Goodl luck.

get yourself a wheel carrier - the spare should not be underneath a 4wd I always say - and then you can mount the aerial on the wheel carrier - like this

or, you could mount it like we did on our first couple of trips...
cheers.

But anywho The GME TX3440 should be here next week, If We are going to install it our selfs, how do we supply power to it? We are going to get the 6db Ariel from Dick Smith and mount it on the roof racks
