| Parking sensors gone mad dealer says they are 100% ok |

Please can someone help me with this matter:-
I have not had my D3 very long so i dont know if this is a fault or as my dealer tells me it is ment to work this way.
on some occasions my parking sensors come on when i slow down or stop the vehicle without engaging reverse gear.
Now on my LR322 ffrr they only came on once reverse was selected and stayed on at slow speed so the front ones worked while getting into a space PERFECT  .
The ones on my D3 seem to have a mind of there own

Have you got front and rear sensors or just rear? G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Probably the front sensors - they come on automatically at low speed so will catch passing cars when you're at T-junctions for example. I think the rears need reverse gear plus low speed to activate.

I don't know if this is related but when I am stationary my sensors have a tendancy to get activated by a nearby motorcycle (not necessarily close enough for the sensor to go off anyway). Just something I have got used to now and regard it as a "feature"  Bonatti Grey HSE 2.7TDV6

Sounds like yours still have the original set-up Anthony, there's a TSB which will update them to the current setup so that they only come on if you select reverse or press the button, the go off and stay off once you get to about 5mph. I'll see if I dig out the TSB number The End

OK two answer some of the questions it is an HSE 05 with front and rear the stealer said that it was an old system and could not be updated without changing some expesive bit of kit in electronics to the later version and then they could program it as my old faithfull ffrr to only activate once revserse gear was engaged.
So i assume that they are all the same and it must be that when i slow down or stop a fly goes past sometimes and activates them which is why it is intermittant.

I will have to put up with it as a Featute or spend some silly money on the update  You can never have too many toys...

Subject/Concern: Discovery 3/LR3 - Front Parking Aid False Warnings
Models: Discovery 3 / LR3 Vehicles with front parking aids
Vehicles with front parking aids VIN-range: 5A000259-6A394387
Summary: A customer may report a concern that the front parking aid system sounds unnecessarily.
Cause: The current system strategy means that the front parking sensors will operate when a forward gear is selected following reverse. Sensor operation is canceled when the vehicle speed is above 10mph (16kph) but will operate again if the speed drops below 10mph (16kph). This can give instances of sensor warnings when the vehicle stops at a junction and another vehicle or pedestrian passes in front of the vehicle, resulting in the above complaint. This is not a fault with the parking system, however, an alternative system strategy is available so that the system operation is canceled when the vehicle speed is above 10mph (16kph) and will not operate again until the vehicle speed is below 10mph (16kph) and the fascia front parking aid switch is selected (or until a forward gear is selected following reverse gear selection during parking).
Action: On a customer concern basis only regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to renew the parking aid system control module. The new system operation must be explained to the customer.
NOTE: The new software strategy is contained within the new control modules below and is installed to vehicles from the closing VIN above.
The procedure is no more complicated than changing the parking aid module (part no. YWC500313) which shouldn't take more than 30 mins The End

Should i have to pay for this time and or labour or should it be done FOC for information the dealer is Matford LR in exeter. You can never have too many toys...

If you're still under warranty it should be FoC
Could probably do it yourself if not (assuming the module isn't too expensive) The End

Hi, sorry in the delay getting back. Thanks for the info slimer  , I am out of warranty now so I will probably just put up with my sensor feature, along with the other ones like the wing mirrors that don't return to normal position after reversing (you have to press the memory button to reset them). Well thanks to slimer my dealer has corrected my PDC fault (sent him a copy of the tech bulletin) and now they work properly.

If I rememeber correctly, this was one of those "Upon customer complaint" issues. So maybe the first owner of your car did not complain enough.
There was also a problem very early on where the pdc would mysteriously not operate until the vehicle actaully stopped (or hit an obstacle). It would happen if the drive-away feature on the electronic park brake was used. This was also fixed by replacing the epb control module.
So I think there are 3 versions out there.
1. PDC works only if epb is manually released, or when a vehicle 'stopped' signal is received by the ecu.
2. PDC works with epb drive-away, but gives spurious alarms as pedestrians and traffic move close to the front.
3. PDc works, front PDC needs to be selected?
Mine is the second version.
I stand to be corrected on the details here
