Insurance Company reaction to "tuned" D3's

I will take delivery on a new HSE in about a week. I want to have the ECU remapped to enhance performance. Probably use TC.

I play most things straight and whilst I will be happy to keep this fact from LR should I have a problem with the engine, I want to advise the insurance company.

Has anyone been told cover will be withdrawn if they have this kind of work done? Can anyone tell me what insurance companies do accept it? Finally, how does it affect the premium?

I spoke with LR insurance this morning and asked how it would affect the premium and was told someone would call back. They haven't.

Mr. Insurance person will look at any avenue to make sure your cover is valid if you make a claim, and in some cases even if you don't make a claim...

If you cause major damage to life / limb / property, you may be personally liable should your insurance be found to be in-valid.

Grannies and eggs stuff, but is it worth the risk ?

Some insurers won't cover you, others will add on a small fortune to the premium, the better ones will just make a small increase.
Basically tell them about it when you shop around for the best deal

A general 'rule of thumb' is 15% 'loading' on the premium Wink

I'm insured with Privelige (a.k.a. Direct Line for posh cars). They added £40 to my annual premium (about 8%). They list it as having a 'Chipped Management System' in the 'engine power increased by 11 - 20%' category.
