I'm going to get a rhino rack and wondering whether to go the basic heavy duty bars or the heavy duty aero bars. I'm told that it is simply a matter of taste as the aero bars have the same load rating and appear to take the same bolt-ons. Cost is the same.
Are the aero bars significantly quieter when there's nothing up on the roof?
Are the aero bars restrictive for some uses compared to the standard ones (e.g. tying down loads)?
Thanks
Scott

I went for the Aero bars on mine (the set of 3) they look better (not so chunky) and still have the same load ability. They must be better with windage you would think.
Good bars in all. 07 White TDV6 SE ,ARB bar & warn 9500 winch, Rhino aero racks, Thomas super pump compressor, duel batteries, Hella spotties, UHF. Mitchell Bros Tow Hitch, LED module (towing with LED taillights), General Grabber Tyres.

I went with the Aero bars for the same reasons as George. I also think they are a bit quieter. In fact, the Aero bars are completely silent - provided all channels top and bottom are properly covered. Any exposed channels will howl like tortured cats when the vehicle is travelling at speed. Try blowing across the mouth of an empty bottle and you will know what I mean.
Be aware that the heavy duty bars can take a lot more accessories. Because of the Aero bar's lower profile, most of the trade accessories will not fit.
Have a look at Rhino's website - it will tell you what accessories will and will not fit the Aero bars. I spent a couple of hours working out all the combinations of bars/racks/accessories on the site before finally ordering everything from one of Rhino's retailers. Turned out I knew far more than the retail guys on how all the bits go or do not go together.
Cheers

Totally agree with the above posts, have also fitted the the three bars and find them to be very quiet. Went for the Rhino Platform Rack as it has many advantages for me. When travelling light I use only two of the Platforms with a home made front and back support instead of the full width front and rear supports. Great for throwing the Oz Tent on when everything else fits in the truck and or the van. The whole lot is easily modified. Kaymar rear bar and tyre carrier; Safari Snorkel: ARB under-bonnet compressor; LRA fuel tank; Winch, bullbar; Cibie Super Oscars; Rhino Platform Roof Rack, Reversing camera; Traxide auxiliary battery system, 17" rims - Cooper ST.

I used the heavy duty bars (set of three) and haven't noticed any noise.
A stated above they take more accessories. 2005 SE TDV6, white; remapped to 185Kw; Black widow drawers & cargo barrier; underbody radiator guard; Mitchell bros tow hitch; rhino roof racks; Traxide duel battery system; GME 3440 UHF; Alpine W502 entertainment unit with front & rear camera, HiTv GPS & Hema off-road maps.

I run the Aero bars and I have not noticed any noise increase, even at freeway speeds (and I drive with the window down).
Have had a 7.3m double kayak with two mountain bikes on the roof at once....excellent
