Got the lamps fitted today, good looking they are too. Pretty intensive work though fitting the bumper mountings.
Thanks 10forcash for letting me have the bumper removal sequence, made it easy.
The hardest bit was judging whether the cardboard templates were accurate, they were about 1/4 inch out, but there is enough tolerance in the assembly to compensate. I also had to trim the mounting covers to clear the top of the bumper and allow the lamps to fit.
I have not yet connected the switch and in-car loom, will do that tomorrow.
I was quite surprised to find that the plastic wheelarch covers were completely full of wet mud, this is sure to be a rust area in years to come.

The lamps are now wired as per the instructions, not difficult, a bit fiddly to get some of the plugs out, but straight forward. The switch is mounted in the dash and looks very neat.
So, reconnected the battery, checked for smoke and flames, and thankfully there was none, so far so good.
Turned on the ignition, and everything seemed normal, started her up, no problems so far. Set the clock.
Turned the headlamps to on, and they came on. Selected High Beam, and high beam came on, BUT NOT THE SPOTLAMPS
Checked the switch, and the little orange lamp on the driving lamp switch illuminates when the switch is on and main beam selected. This must mean that I have connected the switch circuit correctly.
Under the bonnet, there is a wiring loom from the lamps to the fuse box, it has a relay to switch the lamps on. If I short the switched terminals, the spot lamps come on, so this means that the under bonnet wiring and the connection to the lamps must be correct.
The problem seems to be that the switching circuit is not reaching the relay.
I wonder if the car needs to go to a dealer for the lamps to be enabled with the Diagnostic system? Instruction 91 refers to T4 but gives no detail.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

If the switch is illuminating, then there should be output. It could be a faulty relay, bad relay earth or faulty switch. can you check for voltage at the output of the switch and at the relay coil?

I will do, when I thaw out! its flippin freezing out there. Does the relay switching circuit have permanent live, and switched earth, or is it the other way round with permanent earth, switched live?

Not looked (yet) it would be pretty unusual to have a switched -ve though

OK, just spoke with dealer. It does need to be enabled in the CCF. It takes 1/2 hr and costs £40.

Should be free, or they should lend you the WDS system for half an hour! It's not your fault they make accessories that need to be dealer activated, it's not fair that you should have to pay for it as there's no alternative The End

or wait until you have a 'fault' and ask them to enable the lights whilst they're looking for it

Can you not just take a fused +VE feed from high beam circuit to activate the relay ?

The +ve feed is there, its the switch input to activate the relay that is missing. Dealer will turn the function on, maybe I will have to pay, maybe not
