Radio unit crashes intermittently |
|
Hi all. Have had my disco3 for about 3 months now and have had a problem with the radio/CD unit crashing intermittently. The problem is rare, but annoying when it happens. Basically it does not respond to any button presses, and does not have any sound. The display usually has the landrover header. It's easily fixed by re-starting the car. It would be great to hear if anyone else has had a similar problem, or might know of a permenant fix. Many thanks, Wade.

Hi there washley welcome to the site.
Mine does this to,an 08.5my,spoke to the dealer yesterday and was told this can be caused by a low charging problem
Its going in soon for a few bits so will wait and see, will update when i find out.
Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

It can also be due to a missing or incorrect EQ file in the amplifier - or the wrong amp fitted

Thanks Rescue01 - I'd like to know how you get on with the dealer (how exactly do you fix a low charging problem?).
10forcash - is it likely a wrong amp would be fitted to a new car? Could tell me how to fix the EQ file problem? Many thanks for any help - wade.

Rescue01 - come to think of it I believe my problem may only be happening when I restart the car with the radio/cd playing (normally due to one the my children needing an emergency toilet stop at the side of road with rest of family in situ:). Assuming the restart will drop the voltage, maybe this is enough to crash the unit if it is playing. Is your problem happening in the same situation?

07 MY, had the updated files, 2 new amps (both different) then dealer gave up and changed the head unit.
LR Technical then reported that it could be due to a trapped wire behind the passenger A panel. Removed, wiggled about, refitted. Problem gone "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Don't know if it's mentioned in Iconix's links ....
It might be a long shot but have you tried taking the Infotainment fuse out for 5 min.
I had a problem with my CD unit freezing and thanks to a forum member
[sorry don't know who you are] he recommended I tried this.
And it worked, the unit re-sets itself, going through a self check programme!!
Worst thing was that previously my dealer was quoting big £'s to have it sorted. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Once again the fine folk here have come to my aid. Many thanks.
We had this same problem pop up last week (late 07 build MY08). Very peculiar.
Pulled the two fuses and left them out for a bit, et voila!
As long as this gremlin sticks to the entertainment circuits I can live with it.

Pleased I've read this thread before I trecked back to the Dealers. Picked my 06 D3 up Saturday and it has a Parrot fitted. After I'd cracked pairing that with my phone by clearing down the previous owners links I've picked up a gremlin. First thing in the morning when my phone connects with the Parrot it locks my radio/cd and none of the buttons respond until I get to work and turn the engine off. When I restart warm with the phone switched off everything appears normal again. I'll try the fuse thing or better still leave my phone off as nobody phones me anyway and I can't do without music when I travel through rush hour Leeds!!
Other than this little fault and trying to figure out the best deal for some new 20in alloys and tyres to replace my OE 17s I have to say its the best vehicle I've ever driven (and I've had a few classic rot boxes in my time!). I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member...........

I have had it confirmed that the main cause is a parrot, or LR blue tooth kit. however LR assistance also told me, he has seen it hundreds of times. no dealer fix, no upgrade possible. Solution he said is to turn off the engine or best case is to remove battery connection for 20 seconds and re-connect.
Cheers

Cheers Pete
Do you know if battery disconnection cures it permanently or is it just a temporary solution? Seems a bit drastic doing that every time I get to work
Suppose taking the fuses out might have same effect. I'll get me overalls out Saturday and start experimenting....... I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member...........
