18" tyre and wheel combinations |
|
My disco 3 is wearing standard fitment 255/60R18 Pirelli Scorpion Zero's. I was wondering what would the effect be of fitting a set of 255/55R18 tyres with greater sidewall strength and a more off road biased tread ?
General AT2's or BF Goodrich AT's in 18" or something similar in construction would be my first choice tyres.( both in /55 sidewall hight ratio ).
The reduction in overall wheel and tyre diameter and resulting reduction in ground clearance would be my first concern.
Also, I don't know if any Disco 2 18" alloys, Mondials, triple sports etc, would physicaly fit on the hubs and have the required strength on a Disco 3.
Any info greatly welcome,
Cheers,
Nick.

Nick,
your concerns & question mirror those of many others. I have just been through myself. Most people seem to go for the 17inch rims from the base model D3 and find there is a better choice of tyres with off road bias. I have gone for the Cooper ST which is an all terrain patter. The Cooper STT is a mud terrain pattern.
I believe this tyres cone from OZ, but are available in the u.k.
With all the electrickery that the D3 has I have the ST is fine for what I do and it showed the ultra modified boys of th AWDC a thing or 2 recently at a driving day.
Cheers

Disco 2 alloys have a smaller centre hole in the alloy, so wont go on an Disco 3 hub flange (although they do have the same bolt pattern at 5 x 120mm)
In terms of physical fit, any L322 Range Rover, or RR sport alloy will fit, and I would have thought would be OK weight wise, as isn't the RR sport the same weight as Disco3?
