Just to let you guys know that I've bought an 'Undercover' Commercial name removed
It's a fantastic bit of kit and cost me less than £30 on ebay! It's easy to fit and keeps your wheel and tyre clean.

I've not seen one of these covers up close so please take this with a pinch of salt, but I have two concerns with these:
1. That when you go wading in deeper water, the water could flow over the top of the spare and unless the hard cover has drainage holes it will fill with water and mud. The result being that:
a. you drive around with several litres of extra weight sloshing around  ,
b. the weight could pull down the cover causing it fly off into following traffic  ,
c. once wet the tyre/wheel doesn't get to dry off causing premature corrosion or rott .
2. Even though you have a nice clean wheel and tyre to work with when you come to change a wheel, you're just as likely to get as dirty taking the cover off the tyre in the first place.
Maybe some close-up pics of the cover would help ease these suspicions, but I couldn't find any on the ebay listings I looked at (not just the one scoopnick gave us) LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I have one fitted and it has drainage holes
I changed back to AT2s on Sunday, including the spare, and when I took the spare cover off, the tyre was immaculately clean. Same can't be said for the up-side of the alloy which was filthy, but probably no more than if there was no cover at all. The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

So I stand corrected on the water front  But the alloy isn't protected in my mind as it's up and the dirt still settles on the outer face in that case .
Oh well, I think I'll stick to my pair of 99p gloves and the black powder-coated spare wheel I have from Ken. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Saying that Matthias, I got another one for a friend of mine at a latter date (from the same supplier), and that one didn't have drainage holes, but it has now 
You are absolutley correct on the alloy, it still gets covered it dirt and to be honest, you get just a filthy removing the cover/putting it back on as you would handling the uncovered spare wheel.

because it looks good - especially with the reflective forum sticker on it and it does make the spare a bit more secure as any thief would first have to cut through the cover to get at the spare wheel mount - so hopefully they would look for another D3 without the cover. 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

I picked one of these up this morning from the company who advertise on ebay who are based in Tibshelf (not naming them for fear of breaching commercial post rules ).
Had a chat to the owner of the company who is also the guy who designed them and mentioned this forum, and suggested that if he wanted to look at site sponsorship then he may find an outlet through the forum for selling more. (apologies to Martin and the Mods if that causes any offence).
It does look like a good piece of kit that will make life more difficult for your average scroat with bolt croppers, if they are really determined they will probably bypass most security devices in my opinion, but they usually like to be quick, and anything that delays them is likely to make them move onto the next unprotected vehicle.
