It's a Yaesu ft8900 = I've had a look at posts but only see CB related ones. Ideally looking to instal radio in hidden location and use the seperation kit to just have the head unit and mike up front, any pics of install would be great,
Whaere is best to mount the head unit.
I also use MSA radio frequently but will just use use a temp install for this.
Have received a couple of the gutter mounts from Ray -
If I install the radio unit in the rear - any one recommend where to take power from - Previously cables went direct to battery.
Given I've just got the car I want to ensure it is a neat installTDV6 HSE - Silver

FT8800 sits under the passenger seat, remote head to the left of the auto box select lever, Watson remote mike kit with joystick Velcro'd at left knee; Watson on-glass antenna on right rearmost window.
All very moveable to alternative vehicles at need (except antenna, then out comes the biggy on the 3 magnets).

I've got a dual 2m/70cm antenna at one end of the expo and a 10m at the other - getting the mounts onto the rack has proved tricky. Cables go in the grommet hole behind the rear light cluster and the body of the radio sits to the side of the 3rd row seat on the nearside. Power is from the permanent live feed to the tow electrics. I then run the detachable front panel from a bracket on the dash with a 5m interconnect cable - the 3m wasn't long enough to route neatly!
I couldn't get the radio mounted behind the rear panel due to the tow electics and some other gadgety bits stuck on the inside. However cables were fed through the louvered section in front of the rear access cover.
Icom703 and antenna and a bit of tech know how supplied by JMC - worth speaking to him about this! If I can help let me know.

I've just had my iCom IC-208H fitted. Main unit is under the passenger seat, and the remote head is in the lower dash between the two 12v sockets. Mic was extended with a bit of CAT5 and the join hidden behind the dash. Had the Parrot kit and Kenwood screen and Nav done at the same time.
However, my seemingly clever idea of mounting the antenna in the roof where the factory GSM aerial would go isn't working out so far (Can't get the SWR under 3, and it's like this from 144MHz to 147MHz, so it's not the aerial length that needs tuning), so if earthing straps don't fix it, I'll be after another location.

I am new to this site and have been quite impressed with ideas I have found while struggling to mound my amateur radio gear. Unfortunately while I have been able to use some of the suggestions other do not work on my Disco 3. For example the rig under the seat option is out because under the passenger seat there is the DVD for the Sat Nav and under the drivers seat a box of electronics I have not figured out yet. The rear quarter compartment is also out as I have the tow bar electrics in there. Mine is a HSE with the seven seats so the seat well is out too, so I am still struggling. Can I therefore please suggest that anyone with any new suggestions posts about their ideas and includes photos of their installations?
I must say this is my third Disco and the installations in the Mk1 and 2 were much simpler to figure out.
To give you some idea I will be installing a dual band Alinco with remote head and an Yaseu FT-857 also with remote head. Antennas will be a Diamond dual bander for the Alinco and an ATAS, plus a Diamond dual bander for the 857. I will also include a 3/8ths mount for use with my mono-band whips and mounts for the occasional use of a four metre and a 23cm radio. I am hopefully going to fit a hefty second battery as well.Best regards Steve GW7AAV

Out of interest, why the Alinco as well, when the Yaesu already does HF, VHF and UHF?
Also have a look on eHam at the reviews of the ATAS - assuming you mean the Yaesu 120 one - as reviews are mixed, especially regarding reliability in normal use, never mind what you might do to it on the back on a 4x4. I went for the Codan 9350 autotune for that very reason, and a friend out here is running the 857D hooked up to a Barrett 910, again because of their ruggedness.
I'd be very interested in seeing a final picture of where you put all those antennas too. I'm at a loss where to put a HF whip on the D3 without using the tow hitch or adding a rear wheel carrier, so probably won't bother - the Codan is for the Defender.- Jeff K -

Still not sorted out where best to mount radio - plan on spending time at weekend trying to sort out.
Want base in rear somewhere and will most likely put head unit between 2 12v power sockets
One point to clarify for those who have done so - what have you done re - speakers.
1. Can this be linked into existing ICE system - if so - help / guidance would be welcomed
2. If external speaker - again where have you mounted this -
Are there any warrenty issues here - You know what LR are like - - where you splice into a cable etc etc.TDV6 HSE - Silver
