Recently the blower motor does not come on in either auto or manual mode on start up. Turning the temp controls has no effect. If I switch the system on and off a couple of times everything seems to work fine. Is this a common fault and are there any reccomended cures???

Did you check the fuses? Sounds like it doesn't get power.

Further to the above thread , my car will not do anything until the temp gauge has moved from cold . FWIW my BMW with climate control does the same . I think the car is intelligent enough to wait for the engine to be warm enough to be able to produce hot air

Hi Barney - another south wales D3 owner surfaces 
Mine waits for temperature gauge to register something getting warm before it kicks in - mines a base 7.
