Tyres
Hello everyone,
I was referred to this forum from the Landrover site. I am trying to find out which ones are the best tyres for my D3 TDV6 S, July 2005. The dimension is 235/70 17 and I do 99% on road. I also tow a horse trailer once every week or two. Generally, I'll do about 18000 miles per year and I find that the D3 is very heavy on tyres. The last ones only lasted 15000 miles!
The ones I have on at the moment are Continental 4x4 Contact and I had them swapped over after 8000 miles, i.e. front to back, back to front.
The tyres that are available here in France (where I live) are:
Continental 4x4 Contact
Grabber HTS
Goodyear Wrangler
Cooper Discoverer ATR
Can you please give me some advice?
Thank you very much.

I use continental 4x4 contact, get 20k miles from a set changing them at 3mm. Have used them off road and recently in Tunisia and am very happy with them.

Thank you very much for your reply. I think I will stay with the Continetals as I don't really know the others, apart from the Goodyear, and they are too expensive!

What prices are you being quoted in France for the tyres you mention?
Up until a few years ago and before I had my D3 I always bought my tyres in France because it was far cheaper than buying them in the UK but I haven't done a comparison recently.

Hi Phil,
I've just seen the Continetals fo €134.90 per tyre as a special offer, the Goodyear Wrangler at €178.90, Grabber HTS €143.80. All those are internet prices and you'll have to add about €60 labour. Are those good prices? As you can see, I really have NO idea! It's only after Landrover fitted me with Continentals for €280 a piece that I woke up to the fact that they are ripping me off !

If it helps here are my fully fitted prices including VAT, no hidden charges.
General HTS @ £103.40
Continetal @ £121.02
In pounds not euro but I still think thats a good price.

I think Andy's prices are very good. I've been to my tyre fitting place this afternoon and they have got the Continental at £229
They actually told me to go and buy my tyres on the net and then bring them over to be fitted.
