Heavily used off road wheels - are they safe? |
|
I've got the option of some 19 inch HSE wheels that have been used heavily off road - possibly ex Land Rover Experience.
They have been re furbed so thats not an issue. Look like new. 6mm of tyre tread left. All matching Goodyears.
A good price too.
But would you experienced guys trust wheels that have been used heavily? Do they suffer from heavy use?
Would you put them on your car thats used mostly by the wife and kids?
Hope you would because they are a good deal but safety is first!
What are your thoughts.
Thanks

I've got a 2.5 year old set of 19" rims that have only ever been used offroad (and the trip there!) with a fully loaded vehicle, although they're pretty scuffed and have a few dings, there are no issues with them and i'm quite happy to drive at 130km/h on the french motorways.
As long as they're not distorted or show signs of stress cracks they should be fine
*edit* if they have standard tyres then it's a fair bet they are ex-LRE, although most would consider that to be 'heavy offroad use' it's not up to G4 type useage, additionally, all LRE vehicles are used on road and subject to daily inspection, damaged tyres & rims are changed immediately and scrapped not sold on
