3 weeks and counting for an alternator! |
|
3 weeks ago the disco went in for poor starting first turn of the day. The dealer! said it was the alternator and they were on back order.
3 weeks later I call them and still they don't have one!
Is this normal?
My warranty runs out in 6 weeks and when it turns out it's not the alternator thats at fault, the toss pots will no doubt try to say its out of warranty!

A normal warranty policy has a clause that repairs need to be done in a reasonable time. Some will even state that the dealer can get parts from other sources and charge land rover for them. The policy is worth checking that you may be able to source a new part and have them fit it and pay you back. Dealers tend to stick to their regular ordering source because of cost and ease of paperwork. Its worth contating LR direct to let them know of the problem.
Any problems reported within the warranty period will stay valid after expiry if the problem was not fixed, but try to get some evidence that it was reported.

Hearing about lots of issues with Land Rover spares - which is counter-intuitive against the backdrop of reduced manufactruing output of finished D3's.
So maybe Land Rover arent paying their supplier bills and are on stop for spares?

More to do with just in time deliveries based on production forecasts. Spares are usually worked on a % ratio.
Only increased above normal if there is a known FMI.

i would be really surprised if your dealer could not get an altenator
At worst it would be a line pinch item (LR could take one from the vehicle build line)...Sounds like to me your dealer has not upgraded or chased the order..If on b/order and left on a standard stock order then it could sit there waiting for one whilst urgent upgraded orders could be jumping the queue.
Get hold your dealer and ask if the item has been upgraded to critical order..if so ask them for the sequence number...(That will sh*t them up you asking that ) you can then call LR cust services 0870 5000500 and moan at them TLO has left the building.......
I no longer work for a Landrover Dealer

I've been waiting three weeks for a drivers door seal, passenger seat adjustment knob and because LR do'nt supply the speakers seperately a whole nearside rear passenger door panel????all because a speaker fell out! Luckily for me all under warranty, but the wait and another visit to the stealer for rectification is a real pain in the
