Electrical problems already |
|
Just picked up MY57 SE on Sunday & I think it might have a few electrical faults but not sure if it supposed to be like that.
Basically when I unlock the car with the remote, the sat nav screen turns on & the radio display turns on aswell. Also when I lock the car the same screens remain on for a period of time and also the red park brake warning light on the dash lights up.
Secondly the SatNav screen does not respond to my finger presses first thing in the morning. Ater a while when the interior warmed up it works fine. Would this be a software problem or (more likely) faulty screen.
Thirdly both the front headlamps have permanent condensation inside the units, would this be a warranty replacement.
Lastly I notice that the headlights seem to be not too bright. I had a loan car SE a few weeks ago & I distinctly remember that the headlights were much brighter than my previous car
Any help would be most appreciated

Don't worry. The sat nav behaviour is perfectly normal. The car takes a couple of minutes to go to sleep after locking.
The touch screen needs a firm press, its definitly not as responsive as some of the touch screens I sell for a living!
The condensation may be a warranty, but more likely a silica gel sachet placed in the unit will cure it permanently.
Has your car got the xenon headlights, maybe not and the loaner did. You can recogninse xenon by the large round bulb. The standard halogen lights have much smaller bulbs. I think I might be right in saying that 06 SE had xenon as standard, and 07 they were an optional extra.
You can easily upgrade to xenons, its a plug and play replacement of the headlamp unit. I think Slimer has some for sale

Thanks for the reply.
Re the sat nav screen powering down, it seems to be normal but how about when I unlock the car & open the doors, the screen turns itself on as well as the radio disply, is that normal aswell?
Re touchscreen press, I realise that a firm press is needed, its just that for the past couple of mornings, it beeing very cold no matter how hard I press the agree or the little earth symbols there's no response. After the system &/or interior has warmed up a bit, usually after 7 or 8 minutes it works fine. Maybe it doesn't like the cold.
Re the headlights, the loaner I had was an MY8.5 SE & def had halogens & not the Xenons. It just that my car now seems to be much dimmer.

Yep, thats normal. When you unlock you should be greeted with the LR display on the SATNAV and the stereo on standby.
The screen is touchscreen as you know, and the crystals in the screen tend to need warmth to be operational, however it is a problem that LR know about. Not all do it, mine is the same as yours and was given this explanation.

My satnav screen and radio do that when you unlock the doors.
I assume it's the system booting up and the clock coming on in the radio display.
I also find if my fingers are very dry the touch screen is not very responsive.
Can't help re the lights as I have the Xenons that are very bright.

same at my end, radio greets me in the morning and the park brake light stays on when engine turned off and key out
Here's another trick of the radio that the whole family can play: drive for around 2 hours with the temp turned up to high and then cook the radio, one of 2 results 1) the radio stays on despite every attempts to turn it off or 2) the radio locks itself on one station with the volume turned down low enough NOT to hear what people are saying which is a pain in the rectrum when you need to listen to sally traffic, not so bad if chris evans is on!!

Thanks for clarifying things. Had to be sure it wasn't faulty as I will be taking the family to Europe for Xmas & if anything was wrong there's still plenty of time to get things sorted.
The headlights though I will let the dealer look at it maybe get them to replace them under warranty.

One thing I found with the touch-screen is that it can look clean, but isn't. When mine gets unresponsive I give it hell with a wet-wipe and it seems to fix it for a few months. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

The unresponsive touchsrcreen happened again this morning. 3rd morning in a row. Bloody annoying it is especially today as I had to actually use the satnav. I've booked it in with LR goona demand they replace the touchscreen.

And you believed them?
The screen does not have 'crystals' in it
I seem to remember that the D3 touchscreen is a 4 wire resistive screen (or should I say a resistive layer over the actual screen) - it should not be affected too much by temperature in the sense that zen123 is talking about.
I would say that this should be a replacement screen under warranty (for you too Jason ) 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue
