Driving Lights on Grill Area - Suggestions?

Has anyone fitted driving lamps to the front grill area of their Landies? I don't have the A-Bar, but thought two lamps on the front might 'jiz' it up a wee bit (in good ole Gok stylee!)

Any suggestions as to make/power outage, brackets, wiring etc?

I'm presuming official LR ones cost a mint?

Cheers,
Landylad

LR ones are expensive and TBH pretty poor from a light emitting perspective.

You can get 4 x LF140's in there, if yoiu have a look at Christylers gallery, you should find it there. I think he also posted how he approached it Thumbs Up

If you're just looking to be a bit brighter, see Slimer for a replacement set of xenons to replace your std headlights. A MILE better than the std ones & no wiring modifications needed.

I have the Xenons as a FF upgrade. Not really looking for UFO proportion lighting, but more so for the bling.....

Standard LR lamps on standard LR bumper mounts. They look very good, but the light output is not exceptional. I have some LF 170's to fit when I get chance.

I've got LR spots without the A-Bar:

I like the look of them, but as others have said, with the xenon headlamps the spots make no difference as far as road illumination goes. I'd fit some Lightforce lamps on my next one, given the choice.

edit - wow, you gotta be quick on this forum - I wrote the same as Gareth Laughing

BTW - the LR lamps leak as well, so often have condensation in them (or muddy water if you like wading)

For comparison with the aftermarket ones I got, what is the output of the LR Driving lamps?

55w per lamp. But the lenses don't really do anything with the light. Mine are full of condensation, so just for looks now.

Do you still need the LR brackets if you're fitting aftermarket lights to the bumper?

No you don't need the LR fixing brackets unless your using the LR lights, each light will need a seperate fitting set-up, my Roo-Lights have custom made brackets (by me and because of where/how i wanted them to sit within the A-Bar) Its all dependant upon how/where you want the lights on the front of the Disco.

Take a good look through members photo galleries and you'll see that each disco has a slightly diff set-up where lights are concerned.
 If in doubt............flat out.

Yes - genuine LR lamps are poor.
I took the grill off, trimmed the rear edge of the bumper flat, drilled 2 holes down through the top edge of the main metal bumper & made 2 of my own flat metal mounting brackets.
Bolted these in place, re fitted the grill & have 2 off /ipf 130 watt spot lamps on the front.
These have 2 small support arms that go back to the top of the grill just under the bonnet edge.
Plenty of light, very stable (no vibration) & they only just sit prowd of the bumper (1 inch max)
