Key fob programming.
Hi everyone, this is my first post on here...
I have a 54 plate D3. One of the key fobs has died.
I have a friend who also has a D3. Someone tried to break into his car and the locks were damaged. He had it repaired as an insurance job and the garage bought a kit for the car with the locks and 2 new key fobs in it (so he now has 4 fobs that all work with his vehicle).
He has offered to let me have one of his spare fobs for my car. Is it possible to "wipe" the fobs memory and have it reprogrammed for my vehicle?
Yes, should be possible, but it'll need to to be done by a dealer so no doubt there'll be a cost involved The End

I don't think it is possible.
LR supply coded keys / remotes for the vehicle.
The dealer simply enables the key /remote rather than coding it to the vehicle.

I seem to remember that you'll need to order a new key 'blade' (the metal bit) from LR who will supply it pre-cut to match the locks as per your VIN number.
I don't think the electronic part (the black keyfob) is specific to the VIN in any way. I think it's a sealed generic part common to both the D3 and the RRS and it has it's own built-in code.
The dealer will then have to fit the metal bit, pair the new keyfob to your D3 and you should be set to go.
It's probably worth getting them to un-pair the original key just in case (I suppose they can do this too).2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
That's correct PaulP - I've just been through this with my dealer. I don't know if the dealer will be able to swap the blade part over though - it's a tiny rolled pin that holds it in place, so more of a job for a jeweller than a car mechanic (especially at LR hourly rates!). They can programme any key to be accepted by the vehicle (up to a certain amount of keys), and charge about £40 to do it Previously:

Reprogramming a used key fob. The Main Dealers opinion.
Further to my earlier post asking if a fob supplied for another vehicle can be reprogrammed to work on my car.
I have been in touch with my local LR Stealer (Hunters, Kings Lynn) and they informed me that I cannot have a fob that was supplied for a different vehicle programmed to suit mine.
I can't decide whether I believe them or not. They may be trying to get me to buy a new fob.

Did you ever get this sorted regarding the key blade and programming?
My dealer has told me the same thing - not only can they not supply a separate blade but should my spare key be coded for a different vehicle it cannot be recoded.
Is that rubbish?

I thought the blade was a standard Ford or VW or BMW part (I forget which), available in any key cutters? Or is my fevered imagination running riot again?Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?

stapldm,
My local security specialist (well stocked key cutter) said they can cut a new blade for £10 but they can't supply the blank blades. They did say the blank blades could be got from various forums - but I haven't found one yet.
