Fitting T tracks - landrover accessory kit |
|
Hi
Have had a look at post - nothing up that I could see.
Has anybody fitted the roof bars that run down the length of the disco?
I am wondering whether to get landrover to fit or not.
I have asked Landrover if any drilling is needed - getting different answers.
I have bought the biggest Thule Roof box, a Thule Atlantic 900 I think - so was also wondering if I would be better fitting the long roof bars?
any help would be appreciated.
Landrover charging loads to do the fitting.
thanks

How many cross bars do Thule recommend to support the box? A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Yeah, but if you do, surely you'll still need a crossbar to support the roofbox ?
Don't know if there is one .. is there?
You can actually get a crossbar that will fit into channels at the front of the roof.

I will be fitting cross bars - 2 should do the job - not sure yet to go with thule or landrover.
Main concern was the fitting of the t-track.
Have phoned 3/4 dealers and the answer is "it comes with instructions" to "you may need to drill or you may not!"
this level of product knowledge should not surprise me because the chap who sold me the car didnt have a clue about the sat nav, forgot that I was coming for a test drive and did the same thing to another friend - that dealership has now closed down.
anybody fitted their own t-track?

If you make one more post to get to 5 and then send me a PM with an email address i will email you the roof rail fitting instructions so you can see how easy it is I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Roof Rails are a piece of p*ss to fit - I assume you have the standard black trims on the roof. You will need to cut them to length to fit the rails in place of the rear section, you only need to drill them if you are fitting an expo rack and have an older model without the front mounting hole already in place.
Takes 10 mins or so.
Good luck. Must stop buying shiny toys....

I originally purchased the long roof bars until I realised you don't need them for an exped roof rack that only requires the short runners.
I then got the right bits and fitted them myself, no drilling required but had to cut the black insert to size with a hacksaw (I double checked it three times but you still hold your breath when you cut the first one!).
It was an easy fit and took about 30 minutes all in (I am not technical at all!).
The only issue I have had is that the 'foot' fittings on my roof tent and upright bars (I use to load canoes when the roof tent is not on board) are not long enough to fit the standard Landrover cross bars which are quite thick.
A quick visit to the local black smith fixed this little problem.
Good luck with your fit

That very front roof rail is exactly what I am looking for as I want to put a Canadian Canoe on the roof and the rear ones just arnt wide enough apart and I do not want a expo rack - does anybody know where you can get them from.
Also do you have to go for the T system and just use the mounting holes to mount the rear roof bars.
Cheers

the rails are easy to fit just remember to measure twice and cut once the piece of trim that has to be refitted at the front

Rhino Rack ones are cheaper and sit flatter. They recommend drilling and pop riveting the rear end. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
