you havnt exactly worded your question very well. The wheel and tyre weight rating have nothing at all to do with the weight the D3 can tow, but everything to do with the D3's own wieght. The UK spec (in your manual) has tyre spec at 111 mininum, and I've not seen any 22" tyres at that or above, they've all been lower, so your comment about tyres being OK probably isnt correct. As for your 22" rims, dont go below 900kg per rim (and this should be stamped on the back of each rim, in the casting somewhere). There are 20" stormers on the market weight rated at 1050Kg, but genuine LR ones are 900Kg (but dont forget, this is for RRS)
hope that helps

Hi guys
Just been speaking to one o ma mates about 22" wheels. He didnt know anything about the ones he bought and said the car went through the MOT no bother.Until a see him and find out the weights and ratings how is this possible, if they do not come up to the legal requirement (buy either the the law or the police)? Would appreciate any comments on the matter?

MOT wont check or pick up on this, as its not a legal requirement. What it can affect, if you've got something fitted that isnt up to manufacturers spec is an insurance claim (should you need to make one), and something like tyre spec (under weight or speed rating), if this has been in any way partly to blame for an accident, the insurance asessor could well pick up on, and refuse to pay out, or even leave you with liability.

Hi al cope
Seen ma mates car today an he is running on 106V extra load M&S (950 kg MAX LOAD) on the tyres. Cant tell you about the wheels until he takes one of when he looks at his brakes before the MOT. I know you said 111 for the rating but how does this compare or should he try and get tyres nearer the rating?

From my tyre weight chart, 111's are 1090kg, so 106's are way too low. He should definately try and get to at least 109 (which is what LR will be using on the new D3 20" wheels)

Right al cope i will pass the message on. Why are they dropping the rating is it they cant get the tyre manufacturer to make a heavier ratd tyre, or is that 109s are are the highest you can get for a 20" wheel. So how will the insurance companies deal with a claim if you had 109s on an the vehicle was rated at 111 Thnx for your advice al

On the 2009.5 models LR are releasing a 20" rim for the D3, and the tyre spec looks like it will be 255/50x20 rated at 109, the same tyre as is used on the FFRR. In Austraila, the D3 tyre spec has always been 109 minimum (yes, for the same car as is sold in the UK), but here in the UK it was 111. (Dont ask, this is LR after all).
You can get 20's rated higher, I'm running Yokohama Advan ST 265/50x20's rated at 111W.
Its like anything out of spec. If you had a claim that an insurance assesor deemed to have been caused by something not of manufacturers spec, would they reject the claim? With tyres being such an integral part of the cars safety, I wouldnt go under spec if at all possible, so its always worth tying to stick to spec if you can (this is somebody who has 20"'s on which until now, have never been an LR option on the D3 )
