Shame on Guy Salmon Thames Ditton

Shame on Guy Salmon Thames Ditton.

A friend of mine went into their showroom yesterday wanting a new D3 - he had cash and asked about discounts - none full list price only. Basically they tried to sell him an old D3 on the very day the new Discovery was unveiled and they didn't mention a word about it to him.

I have of course told him of the new Discovery and another dealer will get his business!

sorry but if you were the sales guy, would you really do yourself out of the money and say "hang on wait 6 months and get the new model?"....

sales is sales..... and at the moment dealers are doing well, 2nd hand stock is thin on the ground and we're 4 weeks into the 09 plate,, there is not really any reason for dealers to give discounts, maybe added value yes but not big discounts....

don't want to upset anyone but it is what it is....sales....

True - but he is an existing customer, bought a few cars from them and they have now lost that customer by being somewhat foolish.

fair enough, lack of judgement on the sales guy's part, would guess he was not the older "relate to the farmer" sales guy but the younger"sell em to the toff" sales guy??

not implying your mate is a toff by the way..

The land Rover website is still showing that old Discovery 3 model,
plus all old RRS & FFRR models.

But full list when £11k discounts were available just few weeks ago??? Like when I was looking at a HSE couple of months ago in the Inverness dealer and they could discount by a couple of thousand when sticker prices at Stratsones were 9k off and 11k off was achievable! I did check to see if Mrs DSL had written mug on my forehead!

As DSL says - to refuse outright any discount is a bit foolish. Not only have GS lost a sale but all the servicing for the future.

Dom they are quite happily pushing their quota at GSTD at the moment so I'm not surprised they aren't giving discounts. I don't see why that should bring them shame ...and they aren't going to push the new model until it's official release for sale. Is the new dealer going to sell him a D4 then ?? I don't think so Rolling Eyes

More so, I actually think that anyone that sets out to buy a new motor without doing their homework first must be some kind of donkey TBH Wink

There are no stocks of discounted cars left. I was talking to my brother about this last Monday. There were 3 cars then, that still had LR discount. 1 sold while he was looking at the screen.

Swings and roundabouts anyway - you get a big discount - your trade-in is worth less. Good price on trade-in - you get less discount on new. "Best to compare cost to change".

A good salesman will tell you the pros and the cons - the con being that the new D4 had just been announced. Very glad GSTD have filled their quota as they must be one of the few who have. I know of a local dealer who openly advertise £10k off a new D3. As for being a donkey well his homework was by contacting me after his experience, he wanted to run it past me so I wouldn't say he was a donkey, he didn't buy anything!
