Grit stuck in the channel, maybe some silicon spray on the guides? Can you hear the relay trying or the motor trying or just dead? Bodsys Brake Bible

Unclear which window won't go up - but assuming it's the drivers' window and assuming your friend checked the correct fuse (fuse 7 in the glove compartment fuse panel):
1. Is the driver's side switch illuminated?
2. Can he operate the 3 other windows from the drivers' side switch?
3. Does the drivers' side door lock/unlock with the key fob?
Also, please confirm which window.

Had this. The connector block for the buttons on the door became loose, giving intermittent operation.
After lots of hassle whilst i was away, with family/dogs and caravan and no coverage on the mobile in the middle of a forest, after the 2nd attempt by LRA to get someone to fix it, they took the door card off and retightened (read stretched) the contacts in the connector block. No troubles since

Thanks for the responses guys . That should give him enough to go on - the car is still under warranty so I guess it's off to the stealers

Turns out the switch shorted which in turn fried the motor.

Hi All
just got the problem yesterday, rear right window down and not closing fuses ok, did hear motor when pressing "down" nothing when pressing "up" not at the door nor at the master
removed door interior, tested voltage at terminal, down 12v up 7 v
opened motor and turned up manualy
talking to workshop today how to make "hard reset"
did it and works
so next time with any electrical wonders - "hard reset" before hard work
