Wheel Alignment question
Earlier today I had to replace the front tyres on my Disco (Thanks Andy and his lads at AJS )
While the outer edge of the tread had plenty of rubber left the inner edge was definitely a good impression of Kojak's hair
Looking at the vehicle on the flat (for once) it is obvious that there is a fair amount of negative camber - is this normal?? and if not is it easy for a DIY cure, or is it get the £notes out Rob Smith

I should add there is "nothing loose down there" and both tyres had very similar wear.Rob Smith

Take it for a 4 wheel alignment - but make sure the guys know what they are doing, because you may need the steering sensors re-calibrated afterwards - dealer or independants like 10forcash can do this. Do a search for alignment and you'll find plenty of threads explain the whys and wherefores. My local place charged me £30 for fourwheel alignment - but they are not dealers or LR specialists, I've just been fortunate the steering seems not to have been affected - yet!LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

To be absolutely sure it is right get it put into geometry set mode with a full tank when alignment is done.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The car should be put into tight tolerance mode, but it can be done without it My D3 Build Thread

Mikey , what exactly is tight tolerance mode?.Is it purely a particular suspension height setting enabled only through IDS ?If so does the car have to remain stationary once the setting has been programmed or can the car be driven at low speed to a next door wheel shop.I ask as my dealer hasn't got proper alignment gear but the wheel shop next door has the full set up.

Dealer usually does the setting via IDS then takes it to the tyre plce for the actual alignment.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

A releated question
I have recently had the lower ball joints replaced under warranty, and the rear anti roll bushes changed. Should the geomotary be reset.?

Yes should have been done as part of the fitting for the ball joint. ARB bushes won't affect it though.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Nope, it shouldnt have been done by the dealer. If they are worn though, they should be done before an alignment is carried out
@ Discowex:
Not entirely sure exactly what that setting does, but i would presume it is to keep the car at as close to the stored values (calibrated values) as possible. Also means that the suspension doesnt self level, like when opening/closing a door. I THINK thats how it all works...
The car can be driven, but the red suspension light will be on while in that mode, and the suspension is inoperable My D3 Build Thread

They were worn, and were replaced by the dealer.
Does changing them put the alingment out and thus need resetting after its been done, or is it that they need to be done before attempting calibration.
ATS in town have a 4 wheel alignment jig, is this what needs to be done or is it more specialist.RLD Sump Guard & Spare Wheel Protector, 19 GoodYear Wrangler, 17in Maxxis Bighorns

Check with the dealer but I am sure they would have done the set and alignment after replacing them.
If you are still having alignment issues get them to re-do it.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I took mine to Kwik Fit in Edinburgh. Cost about £60 (I think). Stuck on a special ramp with sensors on all 4 wheels. They gave me a print out before and after. Basically showed backend was trying to go a different way to the front end! No longer crab it up the road.
Was all done within the hour as well. There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

In my honest opinion, you 'll ALWAYS have to do this through the dealer. Your D3 must be in 'aligment-modus' before you'll start the align.
This alignment-modus must be actived (thru IDS) before you align and de-activated afterwards.
A kwikfit cannot do this properly without an IDS VCM system .... and believe me.. .they do not have that
