BEWARE..Always talk to the mechanic that worked on your car! |
|
A mate of mine has bought a FFRR (02) with 90k on it... anyway, to cut a long story short, he realised it hadn't had the propshaft bearing recall done, so informed his dealer and they booked it in to be done (major job, had the car in 2 days with most of the front transmission removed)... he got the car back Friday.
On Saturday he noticed a rough rubbing sound when on full lock, never been there before so rings dealer again, they say bring it in, so he takes it in Monday morning.
On Monday afternoon he gets a ring saying he needs new front drive shafts costing £900 "do you want us to fit them Sir"...
No is his reply, and rings his mechanic mate who tells him the dealer should have noticed the driveshafts were worn when they did the recall work, and to talk to the mechanic who actually did the work.
Rings dealer, eventually traces grease monkey who says "no, driveshafts are fine, who told you they needed replacing?"
Turns out the service receptionist self diagnosed the problem (using some fault tracing software) when the mechanic had told her he was puzzled on what the cause was... and rang my mate when the software told her the probable cause was worn driveshafts....
Solution, some ball joint needed more grease applying.... 57 RRS TDV8

Yep Always do.
Unfortunately I am on first name terms with most of the mechanics at the dealer...seems to be a Land Rover thing... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."
