Wet weather
bit of a wet drive in this morning. I think Hampshire has sunk!!!
had a couple of scares though..........
Took the Discovery due to the amount of rain last night - sensible.
Was following a Focus along part of the route (A road). He was doing a good pace for the conditions (about 30mph slower than normal ) and I hung well back. We were mostly straddling the white line due to the amount of standing water. All went well until he ploughed into one obviously rather deeper puddle and must have lost about 30 mph without touching his brakes. The Discovery stops very well but if you thought you got a lot of water over the windscreen normally it is even more if you enter deep standing water braking hard
The other was still following this Focuse. Gentle off camber bend with the usual river flowing across it from the field on the up side to the field on the downside. Ploughed through hundreds of similar streams with no more than the normal twitch. Focus went through fine. However I didn't. Had a bit of lock on as it was a corner and whoooaaa, we are going sideways. Luckily it was an unusually wide bit of road and a bit of arm twirling and panic and some grip on the grass verge (luckily not trees as it was 1/4 mile before and after) and we were pointing in the right direction again.
Hmmmm, what did i do wrong?. tyres are fine, lots of tread, nothing blocking the water channels and correct pressures. So I assume it wa the act of steering that caused it. I was very very careful on all corners after that......
Be careful

Hi Spotter,
Not sure if you did anything wrong, but I found that since I changed tyres to Conti Cross Contact ATs, I get the waterfall over the car, but hardly any feeling of the puddles controlling the car. Coincidentally, I found myself following a Focus a couple nights ago that lost control in a puddle way ahead of me, but I glided through the same with no loss of control (and, admittedly a bit of a grin )!
Even my wife, who hates riding in cars, is a lot more relaxed in rain now, as she can really feel it as a passenger.
I love this car!
cheers,
James

Hi Simon,
I assume you had DSC on? I've found the D3 to be rock solid in the rain. I drove on the M4 recently where the speed was down to 30mph because the of the rain, and people were slithering under breaking but the disco was fine. I've got the standard goodyear wranglers on mine at the mo. I'm working away today so not see the weather but I had it was bad back home.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Hi STu
Yes I never turn off electronic aids; I am not a man
It is rock solid, normally, has been up until now. First time it has ever done anything wierd without provacation. It is easier to aquaplane than I thought I think that is all.............I had no problems doing the emergency stop in standing water end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
