Rumored Ipods

There is a LOT of talk going around that Apple's next evolution of the ipod will have bluetooth capabilities, particularly bluetooth headphones. And with the amount of hacker knowledge/programs available on the web right now about current and past ipods. I see a future of wireless integration for our stereos (with bluetooth kit). And possibly down the line LR will offer bluetooth IPOD integration from the factory.

Just some thoughts,
Mac

I'd put money on it being 5 years or more before this sort of integration is seen in cars Confused

iPods have been 'popular' since the third generation was launched in 2003 and so far I don't know of a fully integrated OEM solution. BMW have tried but it's not quite 'right'.

I agree its not quite right! We had the proper Mini (BMW) Ipod interface retro fitted to our Mini CS at great expense. It works, but its primitive, does not display track info on the head unit, and has broken several times since it was installed.

If thats the best available, I will stick to my MP3 cd's thanks.

Very Happy

And yes the dock connector was the key to any integration and to many many third party devices. There's a lot of functionality there and some companies have grasped it, some others have not and only use the most basic functions available.

Lets wait and see as no one really knows what will come along next.

Whilst BT output on ipods is possible, I'm putting my money on a 'proper' video iPod. However, given that the current BT PTI is, in my opinion, pretty poor in functionality and compatibility, I think I'd be a lovely shade of aubergine (eggplant) if I held my breathe waiting for LR/Ford to implement a decent BT <> music player solution (Apple would probably have introduced direct neural transfer on the 10th gen ipod).

good point... the auto industry are rather slow to react to this type of thing.

.. despite the fact that Alpine make a lot of OEM headunits. The problem is that the OEM spec for the headunit will have been set out in 2003 or something daft, so full iPod integration wasn't on the list and the cost to change it would have been too great.

The aftermarket headunits are quicker to react as there's only ever about 6 months between new models.
