Servicing Advice

Hi all.

I came across this site while searching for information on the Discovery 3 and all I can say is WOW!!

I have owned two Range Rovers (classic) and presently have a Disco 2. I hope to change to a Discovery 3 soon.

My first post so please forgive me if this has already been covered elsewhere.
I have always done my own servicing (and quite a few repairs) without any problems but when mentioning my intended purchase, a comment that is often made is along the lines ‘you can’t really work on those (D3) yourself’.

I accept that if there is a problem it could be more difficult to trace due to the high dependence of electronics but from what I see, most of the servicing is not that different from other vehicles. Is this true or is there more to it?

Thanks

Hi MCW, & Welcome,
No, it's not true. You can do a lot of servicing yourself, particularly with the expert guidance on this forum.

The difficulty is often in regard to diagnostics. For this, you will need to go to a LR dealer, to an independent with an Autologic system (such as 10forCash on this site), or purchase (or access) a Faultmate (see BBS Spy).

Best Wishes,
Peter

I did my first service myselves resently.
Servicing is not a problem, but if you have a problem it is lots off times wiring and that is always difficult to find. But this site is very helpfull.
If you did your own maintenance on your D2 then you can do the D3.

I bought a Faultmate. It is an investment but I think it is worth it's money.

Thanks for the good advice.

I am looking in to the Faultmate as a possible investment.
