Hello there, i am getting a Landrover RAI fitted to my new D3
I have read some other posts saying that this is not a Snorkel
Why is this, does it not have the same wading capabilities, is it not sealed
Also do you need extended Diff/Gearbox breathers for a D3
I have seen a few photos of you guys wading up to the windscreen what issues regarding electrical problems have you encountered
So many questions i know but i dont want my new pride and joy(when i fnally get it ) drowned
cheers. Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

It is indeed a raised air intake not a snorkel. Although not sealed it offers far better protection against water ingress via the air intake. There is a seal of sorts which keeps out water very well.
The intake duct also has a exit for water on the other side of the wing to assist. Piping is porous though so should be replaced with a sealed set.
'Safari' do make a proper snorkel however.
The D3 is pretty forgiving when driven as in the photos and its front end design creates a very good bow wave. As afar as I know, no one has posted with electrical issues following any water crossing.
Opening the bonnet after a deep water crossing reveals an amazingly dry engine bay. Even without an RAI fitted.
ASAIK breather are fitted - someone can confirm / deny this ??
The RAI will give you extra time as long as you keep moving, but its not designed for standing water.

Thanks for the advise guys it was really helpfull
Been looking around peoples galleries and it loks like the D3 is pretty good in water with or without snorkels/RAI.
Looking foward to getting it wet and muddy in March when it arrives. Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!
