Sankey Trailer progress and requests.... :-)
Hi All,
As some of you know, I've acquired a Sankey Trailer (Thanks Ent).
Been working on getting it into solid condition before I spray it (2K Black of course!). Will be used for camping & general farting about with really.
It's the A-Frame Aluminium bodied version, so no rust, but as it's knockiing on a bit now, quite a few of the rivets holding it together have corroded (steel inserts i guess) so it's time to re-rivet the whole thing. Just didn't quite realise the following
a) there's a LOT of rivets
b) a hand riveter is good for 300 rivets before starting to fail....
c) there's a LOT of rivets
So I've been waiting for a suitable weekend and as well as doing some of the other rivets on the trailer, I decided it would be easier to take the gull wing door off.
Was a lot lighter than expected as the effort required to lift the door is quite high.
There were quite a few knocks and dents and bashes, which whilst I had the skins all apart, I managed to (at least partially) get it flat again.
The rubber moulding at the bottom of the Door has definately seen better days. Does anyone know where I can get some of this?
Then after a lot of graft over two days (remember I said Hand Riveter!!!)
Al ready for the rivets to be popped!.
I reckon I must have covered about 450 pop rivets in total this weekend
So now I'm about to order an air rivet gun as I can't face spending that long to rivet the damn thing back together when I take the other door off next weekend.....
And of course, there has to be the first bit of Black to get away from all that green.
It was amazing how much gulf sand came out of the doors!
So, apart from the re-reviting of the whole thing, I picked up a cheap gas cooker with grill from Aldi last week. I have more LED lights (from China) than I can shake a stick at, so it'll be well illuminated. Got a pair of gas struts off e-bay for 99p last week (from a BMW estate) which are the right length and will be able to lift the door.
Now I need to work on the following:-
Brackets for the gas struts
Leisure Battery fitment & wiring
Fold out worktop for cooker
fold out worktop at the back for the 'washing up' area
fold out internal shelf (SWMBO's request after our camping trip the other weekend)
other stuff as yet unknown!
So, I have a list of things I still need to get, but I wondered if anyone could help with this bit as I don't want to buy large quantity of stuff I only need a small ammount of.
Galvanised wire rope, about 2No 2-4mm x 1m (with cleats ) will be used to support the rear (removable) washing up shelf. If anyone has some and the kit to able to cut to size & finish the ends that I'd be happy to pay for
