MP3 Connectivity - D4 GS
Am I right in thinking that the £35,000 D4 3.0 GS doesn't have the ability to connect an MP3 player / iPod to the audio system?
If I am correct - are Land Rover mad? Surely this is now a 'must have' feature, even in the most basic of models? Certainly most manufacturers of small runabouts seem to think so!!

not sure you can compare 'small runabouts' with a D4 Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

OK, I accept the D4 is not so small. But my point (as I suspect you realise ), is that if even basic small cars now have MP3 connections, surely something as mighty (and expensive) as a D4 (even a 'basic' spec one) ought to have it too.D4 XS MY12 Galway
D4 has the connections in the centre cubby box for connecting an ipod/iphone via a small connection cable which should come with the car, as well as a usb connector to plug in a USB stick
recent changes though in the charging system on the 3Gs iphone have left the D4 owners needing a seperate charger to charge the 3Gs phone whilst in use
To be honest i would be more likely to load an 8gb usb stick and leave that in the car at all timeTLO has left the building.......

Thanks TLO - but the LR web site seems to suggest that's for XS and HSE only - not GS?D4 XS MY12 Galway

The 27/4/09 price list issue 1 spreadsheet shows USB connectivity as N/A for GS models. The iPod connectivity lead is also shown as N/A for the GS models.

I can confirm that it's not a financially viable option on the GS.... have been asking the stealer the same question.
If any clever bods in here come up with an alternative, then I'm all ears If in doot, flat oot!!

Did they say it was possible but too expensive; not a selectable option they could configure; or technically not possible due to missing wiring etc?D4 XS MY12 Galway

Not an option and when he was referring to cost, I assumed he meant to get someone in the workshop to do an after sales mod. He suggested a car accessory shop or mobile phone type place as an option, but then, I know what those crooks charge up our way for stuff like that. Be was well going for an after market package with DVD etc etc.
Sure it couldn't be too difficult to add in... only a wire coming up inside the cubby box. If in doot, flat oot!!

For Oz it appears to be a build option to add the audio i/f & touch screen to the same radio. I haven't ordered it as I don't want the touch screen and will just use the aux input.

I don't have an iPod and have only very recently been introduced to my phone's MP3 player where I just play all tracks. I can barely read the phone text whilst staring at it so no chance whilst driving.

As per my thread about the lights, if anyone can think of a reasonable, cost effective way to add iPod connectivity to the GS, I'm all ears.If in doot, flat oot!!

From my reading of the LR website, the online brochures add the print ones from the dealer, if there's something interesting you want on the [insert model here] that isn't on the [insert model - 1 here], then you're pretty much stuffed - didn't really want leather seats, but just about all the things on the XS I did want were simply not options for GS; similarly kids might yet forgive me for the leather seats if I had got heated rear seats, but no, that's not an option, have to go to HSE for that...
