I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Was standard on the early ones - even the 'S'
Mind you £117 is not that bad considering the cost of a new alloy and tyre... 'funny' how it goes dramatically up if ordered post purchase... same thing but they charge huge sums for no one in the factory to have to install it

Presumably the cost is offset against the space saver and tyre they remove to fit the full size spare I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

mmm, doubt the space saver costs that much compared to the full list price of an additional wheel and tyre (post purchase).
I would imagine they fit the full size tyre instead of the space saver TBH. Be silly to fit a space saver in one part of the factory and then remove it.

I think this has been discussed, but....
What the is the point of a space saver on a 3 ton go-anywhere 4x4??
Even if it was only intended for use on the school run, why bother not putting a proper spare on what is a pretty expensive vehicle? I can't accept the 'cost/weight saving' reasons...
I can understand it on smaller cars where boot space is a premium, but not on such a big 4x4 where it fitted out of the way underneath.... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Think of it more as a "profit margin saver"

Maybe it was to restore the ying-yang / feng-shui balance of the D3/D4.....
1. A full-size spare is cheapish, reliable, simple and gives lots of benefits on-road and could save your bacon off-road.
RESULT: Remove it from the D3/D4 spec
2. An EPB is a load of , complicated, and expensive. It is unreliable on-road and even worse bad if you go off-road.
RESULT: Keep fitting it to the D3/D4 (making the customer pay for it) and refuse to admit they were never a very good idea/design. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

D4 has some plates to prevent mud and dust ingress to the EPB mechanism. It will be interesting to see if it makes any difference.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
