Power potential of the 3.0 TDV6 |
|
The version of the new 3 litre TDV6 installed in the D4 seems to be a mix of the 240 BHP base version of the Jaguar XF and the 275 BHP: It has roughly the same power (241 BHP) as the base model but the torque of the 600Nm S version. The difference between them is, AFAIK, only in ECU programming. Physically they are all the same.
I'm guessing that even the 275 BHP and 600Nm of the Jag 3.0 S can be improved upon, maybe to the tune of around 300 BHP and 650-700Nm?
If that was possible, we're might be talking about 0-100 km/h time below 9 seconds (standard D4 9,6 seconds). That would in my opinion lift the D4 into a new league, compared to the 2.7's 12,7 seconds. I would really appreciate the added safety margin when overtaking cars outside dual lane motorway (that's most of the roads in Norway....)

says the man with a re-mapped TDV8 I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Want a BMW X5 as an alternative to a Disco? All an X5 is, is a jacked up 5 series with 4 wheel drive, still rubbish off-road. Just got my first Disco 3!
Loving it!

D4 engine is I think quite different to the Jag version due to different turbos as well as the ECU. Book figures are something like 241 BHP and 600Nm torque, figure 25-30% on that from a remap and 300BHP and 750Nm might be achievable. By that point however I'd be worrying about what the transmission can handle - the HP26 in the D3 is only rated for 600Nm according to the ever reliable Wikipedia, so you have to wonder if the remap could be pushing the limits of even the new box in the D4 (let alone whether the handling is up to the performance as soon as you go through a bend...)

But is the same engine that goes in the Jag, and in Pugs, too
LR have just tweaked a few bits to suit themselves (ie the vac pump for the oil) Disco 5 HSE Lux

I guess you could easily get 300 BHP out of the D4 version before installing bigger intercooler or straightning the exhaust. The increased torque would of course put more strain on your gearbox slightly shortning its MTBF. Shortening service intervals could compensate for that. -05 TDV6 HSE dc5r
